Basal metabolic rate is determined in by sex (men have less fat, more muscle and burn more calories than women), age (muscle decreases among the elderly, slowing down metabolism) and body size (the bodies of people who are large, burn calories faster).In addition, the amount of physical activity you undertake and thermogenesis or the process of digesting, absorbing and transporting food consumed decides how many calories you'll burn each day.
