There's so much being written about mindfulness today. Being alert by silencing the mind so you get in tune with the moment — is being thought of the mantra to work success.

Not only do those calming moments help keep you safe from stress, it also aids in better sleep and a better control over one's emotions. More companies are waking up to the realisation that inner calm raises energy levels which in turn leads to a positive and more efficient employee. To tap into this 'power' you just take 10 minutes (or more, if you have time), choose a quiet corner to begin. Start with breathing in for five seconds, hold your breath for another five s seconds and release it, exhaling slowly. It's important to concentrate on your breath.

A Buddhist technique is to do the 'Inner Smile', while mediating. Here, with eyes closed you focus on your forehead and smile. This builds inner calm. Visualisation techniques are also used, where you take deep breaths and imagine beautiful scenery like a quiet walk on a beach. After 10 minutes, you snap back to work, feeling more at peace.
