    Fanii nu au fost prea încântaţi atunci când 2K Games a anunţat că are de gând să reînvie seria XCOM sub forma unui first person shooter. Probabil că această reacţie a determinat publisher-ul să amâne acest proiect pentru 2013 şi să împingă în faţă XCOM: Enemy Unknown, cel mai recent titlu dezvoltat de echipa de la Firaxis Games (autorii celor mai noi jocuri ale seriei Sid Meier's Civilization). Spre deosebire de shooter-ul despre care am amintit, XCOM: Enemy Unknown se întoarce la originile strategice ale seriei, fiind conceput drept o reimaginare a evenimentelor din primul UFO: Enemy Unknown (jocul iniţial din serie, lansat de MicroProse in 1994). Bineînţeles, foarte multe elemente de gameplay au fost preluate şi adaptate, mai multe detalii fiind oferite în materialul video de mai jos. XCOM: Enemy Unknown este dezvoltat pentru PC, Xbox 360 şi PlayStation 3, folosind Unreal Engine 3. Jocul este aşteptat în toamna acestui an.
