Pentru o bună perioadă de timp, oficialii Apple au afirmat că ecranele mici de 3,5” sau 4” sunt ideale, însă compania a fost nevoită să admită într-un final că înoată contra curentului şi a lansat modele cu ecrane mai mari. Conform unui zvon, cei care preferă totuşi ecranele de mici dimensiuni nu trebuie să dispere, deoarece acestea nu vor dispărea din portofoliul Apple.

 

În toamna trecută, Apple nu doar că actualizat diagonala modelului său de bază iPhone la o mult mai populară diagonală de 4,7”, însă a intrat şi în segmentul telefoanelor-gigant cu modelul 6 Plus. În timp ce iPhone 6 a vizat publicul obişnuit, modelul iPhone 6 Plus a fost gândit pentru mai micul dar extrem de dinamicul segment al amatorilor de telefoane de mari dimensiuni, şi în special pentru Asia de Est, unde telefoanele cu diagonală mai mică de 5” nici nu prea sunt băgate în seamă.

 

Cei care însă preferă, din diverse motive, un telefon compact nu trebuie să dispere deoarece se pare că Apple pregăteşte un model nou cu ecran de 4”. În acest moment, Apple mai comercializează doar două telefoane cu ecrane de 4”: iPhone 5C şi iPhone 5S. Conform programului de actualizare folosit până acum, iPhone 5C ar trebui să iasă din producţie începând din toamna acestui an, în timp ce iPhone 5S va deveni cea mai ieftină opţiune şi va mai supravieţui până în 2016. Începând cu toamna anului viitor, utilizatorii Apple vor trebui să se accepte de voie sau de nevoie schimbarea, însă se pare că există totuşi o speranţă.

 

Conform DigiTimes, Apple lucrează în prezent la un telefon cu ecran de 4” care va fi numit, cel puţin până la proba contrarie, iPhone 6C. Vechiul iPhone 5C nu s-a bucurat de o apreciere prea mare atunci când o fost comparat cu ruda sau mai arătoasă şi mai dotată iPhone 5S, însă viitorul iPhone 6C ar avea o şansă ceva mai bună deoarece va rămâne singura opţiune Apple compactă.

 

 

Cel mai probabil, iPhone 6C va elimina de pe piaţă iPhone 5S, tot aşa cum iPhone 5C a eliminat iPhone 5. DigiTimes afirmă că telefonul va fi conceput pentru publicul feminin, ceea ce sugerează că acesta nu va fi gândit în mod neapărat ca o opţiune mai ieftină, aşa cum a fost cazul iPhone 5C, ci ca una mai compactă. Dacă acesta va folosi însă doar componentele interne ale modelului iPhone 5S sau va şi prelua o parte din noutăţile apărute odată cu iPhone 6, rămâne de văzut. Tim Cook a afirmat că lansarea unor telefoane mai mari a fost benefică pentru Apple deoarece a facilitat atragerea unor utilizatori Android care poate că şi-ar fi dorit un iPhone, dar erau descurajaţi de diagonalele mici ale ecranelor.

 

Odată cu enigmaticul iPhone 6C, în toamnă vor fi lansate şi de la sine înţelesele modele iPhone 6S şi iPhone 6S Plus, acestea urmând să ofere, conform zvonurilor recente, tehnologia Force Touch folosită la Apple Watch şi MacBook şi 2 GB de memorie RAM. Dacă de apariţia modelelor 6S putem fi siguri, iPhone 6C rămâne însă momentan incert.

Cunoscut până acum după numele de cod A55, HTC One E9 este un smartphone din gama mid-range, pregătit ca alternativă mai accesibilă pentru telefoanele din seria One M9.

Surprins într-o primă serie de imagini neoficiale, One E9 se prezintă într-o carcasă din plastic alb-lucios, pusă în valoare cu o ramă aurie şi benzi metalice în partea din faţă.

 

Comparat cu actualul model HTC One M9, noul E9 păstrează configuraţia cu difuzoare stereo orientate în faţă şi cameră foto de 20MP în partea din spate, însă ecranul de 5.0˝ este schimbat cu unul mai spaţios de 5.5˝, suportând aceeaşi rezoluţie QHD (2560x1440 pixeli). La interior găsim o configuraţie motorizată de cel mai puternic chipset MediaTek al momentului, modelul MT6795 cu procesor octa-core la 2GHz.

Configuraţia este completată cu 3GB memorie RAM şi 32GB spaţiu de stocare intern, respectiv cameră frontală de 4MP cu tehnologie UltraPixel pentru amatorii de poze selfie.

 

HTC One E9 este livrat cu versiunea Android 5.0 Lollipop, personalizată cu interfaţa HTC Sense 7. Din păcate pentru mai multe detalii şi confirmarea celor prezentate mai sus va trebui să aşteptăm anunţul oficial de lansare.

iPhone 5S review:

Remember the days when phones were small? The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus take pride of place in Apple's line-up these days, but the 2013 iPhone 5S is still on sale for £459, US$549, AU$749 and above, so we thought we'd take another look and see how it stands up in 2015.

When it was first unveiled, the iPhone 5S looked a lot like the iPhone 5, even though it went much further under the hood. We'd been there before with the iPhone 'S' conundrum: a new phone comes along, taking the shell of the previous model, adds some new bits and pieces, and then claims to be an entirely new phone.

Which it was, of course. But also wasn't. Well, mostly was. It's the kind of move that only Apple can pull off with any kind of conviction: the notion that it can take the same chassis, have a little tinker, throw in a new CPU, slightly better battery and camera, and call it an all-conquering device.

The jump from the iPhone 5 to the iPhone 5S was nowhere near as significant as the leap to the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus - Apple's latest handsets have changed notably inside and out, and their release should give you serious pause if you're looking at buying an iPhone 5S right now.

The 5S is an expensive smartphone, even on 3G plans - although thankfully the price has started to fall.

You'll still be looking at around £30 a month to get one without an upfront fee, but Apple has dropped its SIM-free prices following the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus releases. The 16GB model is now £459, while the 32GB version will set you back £499. The 64GB variant has vanished as an option.

In the USA, contract prices start at US$99 (16GB) and US$149 (32GB), with the SIM-free prices set at US$549 and US$599 respectively. In the Australian market, the 16GB costs AU$749, with the 32GB model coming in at AU$799. The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus cost more, sure, but not that much more considering the upgrade in technology.

For its time though, the 5S was a big jump forward, and it's still in credit now: whether it's the Touch ID home button (which is excellent, more on that later), the jump in CPU power over its predecessor or the fact the camera was, once again, improved, the iPhone 5S saw Apple attempting to bring as much as it could to the party without having to re-design the whole concept all over again.

There are many that think releasing the same design twice is cheeky, and there are others who realise that sometimes there's no need for change. It's easy to fall into the former camp, and while Apple will happily point out it's not forcing anyone to buy its phones, it's acutely aware the competition is now scarily strong and it needed to bring its best to stay relevant.

Design:

What can you say about the design of the iPhone 5S that already hasn't been said with the iPhone 5? Let's face it: there's nothing really new here that's going to help you work out if the person sitting opposite you on the train is using the more recent phone.

Perhaps that's less of an issue now that the iPhone is becoming something of a commodity, a device that is so oft-used by the middle-aged generation that it no longer carries the lustre that the exclusivity of the earlier models emanated.

That's not necessarily a bad thing either; just because it's not an 'exclusive' design doesn't make the iPhone 5S any less premium.

It's still a stunning phone to hold in the hand, coming with the all-aluminium-and-glass chassis. There's no doubt Apple has had a look at the way the iPhone 5 range (well, black and white) chipped so badly around the edges.

But that same issue was apparent already in my iPhone sample within a week, so it looks like you're going to quickly need to stuff your new iPhone 5S in a case the second you release it from its box, lest you leave it in a pocket or bag with change and keys and it comes out looking like it's gone a few rounds with a randy cheese grater.

The new colours, introduced with the 5S, which include champagne and space grey are a little odd, but at least promise to show up the scuffs a little less prominently.

The way the iPhone 5S feels in the hand is something impressive though, coming with the low, low weight of 112g and dimensions of 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm.

It's still got that almost too-light feeling, that the premium metal finish is somehow diminished through the lack of heft, but it's a long way from feeling cheap.

Compared to something like the Galaxy S5 or LG G3, the iPhone 5S is miles ahead when it comes to design, although less so than the HTC One M9 or One Mini 2 which have repeated the aluminium-clad trick.

The new Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge demonstrate that Samsung has got its design mojo back, and both handsets give the iPhone 5S a run for its money in the looks department.

It's got a slightly sharper edge than other models on the market, which can make it a little uncomfortable when being pressed to the ear. But I'm not going to quibble too much there lest it makes me seem a little wimpy.

There are only a couple of real design differences compared to the iPhone 5, and one of them really is miniscule: the camera module is flanked by a dual-LED flash, which I'll talk more about later (it's a really rather nifty piece of technology, trust me).

The other is a lot more substantial and impressive: the home button got a redesign which has been carried over to the newer handsets.

Yes, it doesn't sound like much, but consider how iconic the Apple home button has been over the past half-decade, and you'll see why I'm holding the change in such high esteem. The visual effect is impressive, taking the square off the button and putting a fancy silver ring around the key.

The effect isn't only aesthetic either, as this area serves as the Touch ID fingerprint scanner, now well established in Apple's iPhone range. It's good to know that even on this older handset you've got the benefits that Touch ID brings.

Having bought two separate biometric security firms, Apple was likely to do something like this, but the implementation and visual effect is really something that Apple does well, and has done so here too.

Beyond that, the iPhone 5S is identical to the 5, even down to the rattle in the power button. We're still a little confused as to why a device with such a high build quality has a slightly loose part with it, but shake the iPhone 5S gently and you'll feel the key moving around.

It's not a big deal, but every so often you'll note the motion, and it does detract somewhat.

Thankfully the rest of the phone is built impeccably. The round volume keys are easy to hit. the switch to enable volume on or off has the same sturdy feel that I've come to enjoy, and the headphone port is still welded to the bottom of the phone.

The Lightning connection port is here as well, along with the stereo speakers on the bottom of the phone. I wish these were placed somewhere else, as when cupping the phone in landscape mode it's far too easy to cover these with palms or digits, and there's not really any way to shift around them.

You can always use headphones, but that kind of negates the point of the speakers for gaming completely.

The right hand side hasn't been left completely alone on the 5S, with Apple choosing this surface as the location for the SIM card tray - but unlike most smartphones that take microSIMs these days, iPhones now rock the tiny nanoSIM technology.

There are also matching leather cases, which are something of an oddity for a brand that's just overhauled its whole outlook with an all-new operating system. They're slightly cumbersome, making it hard to hit the buttons, and they get scuffed so easily - all for £25.

But beyond that I'm still impressed with the design of the iPhone 5S. It's hard not to be, as if there's one thing that Apple gets totally right it's the way it assembles its devices.

The metal and glass combination does feel a little fragile, and I'd recommend a case (perhaps a third party option) to protect the aluminium, but the design is something that at least helps mitigate the higher price.

Of course, good as the design is, it's now up against the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus: sleeker, thinner, and rocking much larger screens. Whether or not these changes are for the better is up to you - you might be really attached to a phone screen that you can get your thumb comfortably across.

We're also gearing up for the expected release of the iPhone 7 (or iPhone 6S) this year, which could leave the design of the iPhone 5S feeling even more antiquated.

HTC One M9:

The HTC One is a phone built on precision. It's a brand realising it made a pretty much perfect phone with the One M8 and doubling down on its greatest strength to try and win over more customers.

It's dropped the maligned 4MP Ultrapixel sensor, bumping it up to a huge 20.7MP option in a bid to attract those that feel safer buying a phone with higher numbers on the spec sheet.

And it's tied off the experience with a huge boost in the engine room and teamed up with Dolby to refine its already powerful BoomSound experience.

Even the battery capacity is improved, something HTC has struggled with in the past – now it's beating Samsung's Galaxy S6. So has the Taiwanese brand managed to do the almost impossible and create yet another perfect device?

It's certainly charging for it: the One M9 isn't cheap. In the UK it's going to be £580 SIM free for the handset, with a good £10 per month extra on contract. Early US price has it at around $650 without subsidy – which is only a rough price, but seems slightly out of kilter with the UK.

This will go down, but it seems this phone has had to have a price increase to facilitate the improved design and uprated innards. HTC has kept the microSD slot for extra storage, and boosted the internal spec to 32GB to ensure issues of low memory should be a thing of the past.

The internals are impressive: an octa-core Qualcomm 810 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 2840 mAh battery on top of a Super LCD3 screen. It's not got the cachet of Samsung's Super AMOLED display, but it's still colour rich and seems close to the glass, which is important for image quality.

There are some things that haven't improved though: the screen is still "only" 5 inches, which could be too big or too small depending on your opinion on the subject. The resolution is "only" 1080p, but again, some are questioning whether the pin-sharp QHD resolution is needed, especially as it's harder on battery life.

The metallic chassis is back and is bolder than ever. It's a two tone design (well, the Silver/Gold and Gold/Pink versions have a contrasting band around the side, whereas the Gunmetal Grey and Gold on Gold versions don't) that uses a single piece of metal for the entire phone – it really feels better packaged.

However, the key question remains: is this package good enough to warrant the extra cash? Have the improvements added more to the mix or is HTC just treading water, adding nuance rather than innovation?

Design:

Let's get this out the way at the start – the design is, by far, the most amazing part of the HTC One M9. HTC is calling it "jewellery-grade," with each one hand-finished by craftsmen, and it certainly shows.

The one-piece fascia is complemented beautifully by the two tone metallic rim (on my review unit, the silver and gold variant). The grey and gold versions will look less impressive, given they've lost the two-tone appeal, but that doesn't mean they won't be as nice to hold.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they'll be nicer than this model. There's something about the design right now that I really don't like, the rear edge proving to be quite sharp in the hand. It's not going to draw blood, but when I used the gunmetal grey preview device in Barcelona it definitely felt closer to the One M8 in style, with more of a comfortable curve.

The reason for this hasn't been confirmed by HTC, but I get the feeling it's something to do with the colouring process.

The other thing that's changed here – and not for the better – is the power button transferring to the right-hand side of the phone.

This is a more natural place for it to live, making it easier to turn the screen on and off. However, HTC has inexplicably made it the same size and shape as the volume buttons above, so feeling for it without explicitly looking means I often hit the volume key instead.

The microSD slot is right above the trio of buttons too, and as it's slightly indented can cause confusion when trying to change volume in the pocket. It's hard to tell which is which, even with the phone in your hand – the extra ridges on the power button don't help enough.

While the decisions HTC has made to improve the One M9's design don't seem to have hit the mark, there's no doubt this is a finely crafted phone, and is probably the best on the market in that respect.

The two-tone finish is superb, the weight and balance is even better than before, and the precision I spoke of earlier is the overriding feeling.

The sharp edges of the BoomSound speakers are well-defined, and while it's heavy at 157g, especially compared to the iPhone 6 or Galaxy S6, Apple's is the only device that can come close to beating the attractive packaging here – and I prefer the weight and balance HTC has created.

Screen:

One thing HTC gets lambasted for is the extra space around the screen, with people saying the HTC logo doesn't need to be on there, surrounded by a black bar that many think is there for show.

It isn't. It's packing screen components that have to go somewhere as HTC has extended the length of the One M9 through the need for decent audio chambers to pump out BoomSound – and I'd rather have the powerful speakers than an identikit smartphone.

The M9 is actually a little smaller than before, despite having the same 5-inch screen as last year. In fact, it's an identical screen to last year's model with a 1080p SuperLCD display covered in Gorilla Glass.

There are undoubtedly performance improvements, but like last year, HTC is being cagey about them. What is apparent is the screen's colours are rich, the gap between glass and display is low and the response under the finger is noticeably sharper.

The screen's 441PPI is perfectly sharp and doesn't really offer a lot less than the QHD screens that are starting to flood the market. Well, more not so much "flood" as "gradually drip," but they are coming.

The only functional reason I can see to stick a super-sharp display into a screen below six inches in size is to allow for virtual reality headsets, which magnify the screen and can cause pixelation. However, HTC isn't using the phone as the base of its VR Vive headset, so there's not really any need here.

The 5-inch screen is a fraction smaller than the competition on the market right now, with many other brands choosing to go 5.1-inch and above – but again, 5 inches seems like a fine choice here. There's a fair amount of bezel on the One M9 compared to phones like the LG G3 and the Galaxy S6, and that's more pronounced due to the extra metallic lip that's running around the edge of the phone.

But we don't need edge to edge displays unless that's what the phone is about – and HTC's model is geared towards feeling more ergonomic in the hand, so it seems to suit the device.

CM11S este un firmware creat de cei de la Cyanogen împreună cu Oppo special pentru unui dintre cele mai originale telefoane din ultimii ani, Oppo N1.

Lansat oficial în septembrie 2013, gadgetul din imaginea de mai sus a fost unul dintre primele care a introdus o cameră de calitate foarte bună rabatabilă, ce putea fi folosită atât pentru selfie-uri, cât şi pentru orice alt tip de imagini. Este vorba de Oppo N1 un smartphone cu specificaţii mai mult decât decente, pentru momentul respectiv, ce venea preinstalat cu Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

 

 

Deşi intern, inginerii companiei au lucrat intens la o interfaţă proprie de Android intitulată Oppo Color, Oppo N1 se mai mândrea cu o inovaţie semnificativă. Statistic, a fost primul smartphone lansat vreodată ce a avut parte de o versiune oficială de firmware Cyanogen, rezultat al unei colaborări între Cyanogen şi Oppo. În funcţie de preferinţa personală, utilizatorii aveau posibilitatea de a alege între CM10.2 bazat pe Android 4.3 Jelly Bean sau Oppo Color OS. De asemenea, puteau face tranziţia de la unul la altul, într-un mod arbitrar, fără nici un fel de probleme.După o lungă perioadă de timp în care toată lumea credea că respectivul dispozitiv a fost uitat, Cyanogen a anunţat un nou firmware cu numele de CM11S pentru Oppo N1. Respectivul firmware include toate funcţiile proprietare create de Oppo, inclusiv câteva aplicaţii precum O-Touch panel şi O-Click remote. La bază, este construit pe Android 4.4 KitKat. Ca de fiecare dată, instalarea unui update de firmware pe un Android nu este cea mai prietenoasă operaţiune, dar în acest caz puteţi parcurge untutorial foarte elaborat.

Ecranele curbate despre care auzeam în urmă cu doar câţiva ani încep uşor-uşor să îşi facă prezenţa simţită şi pe piaţa dispozitivelor mobile. LG G Flex şi Samsung Galaxy Round au fost simple experimente la vremea lor, însă am ajuns însă în momentul în care un smartphone fără ecran plat poate fi un telefon obişnuit. După modelul Galaxy Note Edge de anul trecut, Samsung a demonstrat un telefon cu specificaţii de top, ecran curbat şi design atrăgător nu mai este ceva ieşit din comun, iar S6 Edge întăreşte şi mai mult această realitate. LG nu s-a lăsat mai prejos şi a lansat cel de-al doilea model proprietar de smartphone curbat: G Flex 2. Acesta nu numai că întoarce orice privire, dar reuşeşte să îşi depăşească predecesorii la multe capitole.

 

 

Construcţie, design, ergonomie

La prima vedere, privit direct din faţă, LG G Flex 2 nu este foarte diferit de flagship-ul companiei, G3. De fapt, noul G Flex împrumută foarte multe elemente de la fratele său lansat anul trecut, inclusiv câteva particularităţi legate de hardware-ul intern. Imediat ce îl întorci spre profil, realizezi însă că ai de a face cuun dispozitiv ceva mai special. Ecranul curbat atrage atenţia imediat şi conferă dispozitivului o formă uşor concavă. Deşi nu am avut la îndemână originalul G Flex pentru o comparaţie amănunţită, curbura ecranului de pe cel de-al doilea model pare să fie identică.

 

 

Chiar dacă sticla curbată este asemănătoare, carcasa sa este aproape complet diferită faţă de cea a modelului precedent. Împrejurul display-ului există o ramă cromată din plastic, al cărei singur scop este să îmbunătăţească aspectul exterior al dispozitivului. După cum ne-am obişnuit încă de la LG G 2, pe laterale nu există niciun buton. Filosofia de design minimalistă adoptată de LG este probabil dovada vie a zicalei englezeşti „less is more”. Deşi G Flex 2 nu afişează multe elemente la exterior, acest lucru îl face să pară un dispozitiv mai sofisticat.

Butoanele fizice sunt trei la număr şi se regăsesc pe partea din spate. Acestea sunt poziţionate sub camera principală şi la prima vedere ar putea fi confundate cu o grilă pentru difuzoare. Butonul Power este amplasat central, între cele două butoane pentru reglarea volumului. Deasupra, camera de 13 megapixeli este flancată de un blitz dual-tone şi un fasciul laser, toate împrumutate de la G3. Difuzorul monofonic este amplasat în partea de jos a capacului detaşabil şi dereglează simetria impusă de restul elementelor.

 

 

LG G Flex 2 - Butoanele sunt poziţionate pe spate, sub camera foto

Alte elemente notabile la exteriorul telefonului ar fi portul infraroşu din partea de sus, mufele micro-USB şi jack-ul de căşti, alături de o cameră frontală, un LED colorat pentru notificări şi senzorii pentru lumină ambientală şi de proximitate, amplasaţi lângă difuzorul pentru apeluri. Spatele lucios al dispozitivului completează aspectul elegant al telefonului, acesta fiind plăcut atingerii. Unul dintre avantajele acestui capac este tratamentul anti-zgârieturi, care „vindecă” orice urme fine. Deşi nu am insistat prea mult, am testat şi flexibilitatea acestui smartphone, care i-a dat practic numele, iar acesta a rezistat fără probleme. Atunci când ţii G Flex 2 în oricare dintre buzunare, nu ai motive să te îngrijorezi. Poţi să te apleci sau să te aşezi pe el fără emoţii. În ciuda unor mici sunete produse probabil de punctele de prindere ale capacului, telefonul iese de fiecare dată nevătămat din astfel de situaţii.

LG pare să fi studiat pe îndelete avantajele unui ecran curbat şi le-a fructificat pe deplin în realizarea lui G Flex 2. Deşi avem de a face cu un phablet, acesta nu este greu de utilizat cu o singură mână. Curbura ecranului face elementele din partea de sus a ecranului mai uşor accesibile, iar glizarea degetului pe verticală pentru scroll în browser sau reţele de socializare este mult mai confortabilă decât pe alte dispozitive cu display clasic. Chiar dacă designul îndoit de la jumătate face dispozitivul ceva mai gros decât ne-am aştepta de la un dispozitiv de top din prezent, acesta se simte foarte confortabil, în special datorită marginilor rotunjite.

 

Ecran şi hardware

Întrucât display-ul curbat este marea atracţie a lui G Flex 2, LG nu a dezamăgit la acest capitol. Deşi panoul P-OLED (Plastic-OLED) nu oferă o rezoluţie la fel de înaltă precum G3, acesta reuşeşte să afişeze culori mai vii. Rezoluţia Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixeli) este de ajuns pentru un ecran cu diagonala de 5,5”, iar diferenţa între aceasta şi QHD este evidentă doar dacă ai cele două dispozitive alăturate. Mai mult ca sigur că densitatea de 403 ppi va mulţumi orice entuziast al tehnologiei mobile. Singurul reproş cu referire la display este faptul că profilul de culori implicit al software-ului nu afişează nuanţe corecte. Am obţinut cele mai bune rezultate folosind opţiunea „natural” din meniul display al setărilor.

 

 

La capitolul hardware, LG a optat însă pentru ce are mai bun. Acesta este unul dintre primele smartphone-uri echipate cu chipset-ul Snapdragon 810 de la Qualcomm. Vorbim despre un procesor pe 64 de biţi, care integrează patru nuclee Cortex-A53 la 1,5 GHz şi patru nuclee Cortex-A57 la 2 GHz. Întrucât acesta este unul dintre cele mai puternice procesoare pentru mobile disponibile pe piaţă, performanţa nu este o problemă a lui G Flex 2. Am avut spre testare varianta cu 2GB memorie RAM şi 16 GB spaţiu de stocare şi pe perioada testării nu am sesizat probleme legate de performanţa telefonul în utilizare obişnuită.

S-a simţit însă în testele sintetice 3D o limitare cauzată de supraîncălzire. Acesta intră în throttling atunci când GPU-ul este solicitat inens, ducând la performanţă limitată. Se pare că îngrijorarea celor de la Samsung cu referire la acest chipset a fost justificată. Implementarea LG oferă performanţă foarte bună în utilizare de zi cu zi, chiar şi în aplicaţii mai pretenţioase, însă în jocuri 3D, atunci când o conexiune de date este activă, sunt şanse mari să prezinte semne de oboseală. În partea de sus a terminalului poate fi sesizată cu uşurinţă temperatura ridicată, în special în timpul convorbirilor. Întrucât am avut la dispoziţie o variantă de test, este posibil ca această problemă să fi fost rezolvată pentru modelul care a ajuns în magazine.

Autonomie

În ciuda unei rezoluţii inferioare şi a unui panou OLED, LG G Flex 2 nu reuşeşte să ofere performanţă superioară faţă de G3 la capitolul autonomie. Cu o conexiune de date pornită permanent, sincronizare cu două adrese de e-mail, reţele de socializare şi câteva ore de ascultat muzică, acumulatorul de 3.000 mAh asigură aproximativ 30-35 de ore de autonomie. În niciun caz nu este un rezultat de lepădat, însă îi va dezamăgi probabil pe cei care sunt în căutarea unui smartphone care să ofere două zile de utilizare la o singură încărcare fără să fie deconectat de la internet.

Evolution teaches us many things, one of the most important being that in order to survive, we must adapt. Unfortunately, some creatures are better adapted for survival than others. Over thousands upon thousands or millions of years, a seemingly simple organism can rise to be a thriving part of its species, setting an example of the benefits of such evolution.

However, all evolution is met with hardship, and obstacles. In the insanely competitive mobile world, products live and die on a daily basis. If you're lucky enough to break through all the noise, you may just live on for future generations. One such company that's evolved to the top of the food chain is Samsung.

In 2009, Samsung accounted for only four percent of all Android smartphones. Today, that number has jumped to 29.3%, according to a recent comScore report. Not to mention, Android now commands just over 80% of the mobile OS market, leaps beyond its position behind Windows Mobile, RIM, and the now non-existent Symbian.

Samsung may have been blasted for "copying" designs in the past, but the company hasn't been afraid to make big bets. One of the most memorable was the Galaxy Note, a phablet, a word with an increasingly shifting definition, with a completely unheard of 5.3-inch display. It was criticized as being ridiculously big and wouldn't sell, yet here we are with the fourth iteration, and 5-inch plus phones being the norm.

Apple eventually saw the need with the iPhone 6 Plus, and helped reduce the jokes about Android users making phone calls with their "tablets." Just last year, Samsung made another bet with the Galaxy Note Edge, the first ever phone of its kind. A peculiar concept, the unique experience has made it center stage with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, the latest flagship that also sports some firsts.

What exactly is the Edge?:

While the Galaxy Note Edge had just one curve, the Galaxy S6 Edge features what Samsung claims is "the world's first dual-curved glass display." Edge is a simple marketing buzzword to advertise the curved display, and although "Curve" may sound like a better choice, it doesn't get the whole message across.

For example, by swiping from the "Edge," you can access and customize a list of your five most popular contacts. Tapping on their photo, which appears as a bubble icon, lets you call or text them, and if you want to see more details such as their most recent text, you can swipe again over their photo.

Going a step further, you can customize the color for each contact. Such a feature may sound trivial, that is until you leave your phone facing down. Because the screen is slightly curved, a tiny sliver is exposed. If your friend Jason calls, and his color is red, the exposed part of the screen will light up red, instantly signaling to you your friend Jason is calling.

Where the Moto X 2nd Gen has front-facing sensors enabling you to wave your hand over the screen to ignore a call, the Galaxy S6 Edge allows you to ignore a call by putting your finger over the heart-rate sensor. This obviously makes a lot more sense if you often leave your phone facing down, which may or may not be the case.

The Edge also functions as a stream for content that interests you. Think of it as a stock ticker of sorts, able to display tweets, text messages, weather, emails, and more. Because Samsung takes advantage of a Super AMOLED display, it can display this information when the screen is turned off, and not drain your battery. To see more details about whatever information is being shown, simple tap the Edge to be taken directly to it.

It's been 30 years since the first ever mobile phone call was made on the historic Vodafone VT1 and boy, how things have changed.

That first ever mobile phone even had a carry handle for you to take it around, but now we get angry if a smartphone won't fit in the pocket of our skinny jeans.

Looking back on the last 30 years really brings it home how much the market has changed in the transition between mobile phone to smartphone and every iteration in between.

Our info-graphic below shows off the transition from Vodafone VT1 to the Nokia 3210 to the Razr V3, BlackBerry Bold 9700 and all the way up to the HTC One M8 and the iPhone 6.

Showing what can happen in 30 short years really hammers home where we could be in another 30 years as well.

It also begs the question of what the next big smartphone will be that's added to the list. Could it be one of our best mobile phones in the world right now?
