KROOS AND NEUER NOMINATED FOR BEST CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PLAYER

Bayern München keeper and world champion Manuel Neuer, as well as Real Madrid’s Toni Kroos are in with a chance of being named the best player in last season’s Champions League. Both have been nominated by UEFA in the award for the most impressive goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward, which will take place on 24th August at the draw for this season’s group stages in Monaco.

Nominations were made by all 32 coaches who took part in the tournament last season as well as 55 journalists. Manuel Neuer has been chosen alongside veteran Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon and Atlético Madrid’s Jan Oblák. The midfielders up for the award include Brazilian Casemiro and Croat Luka Modric, both of who are teammates with Kroos at Real Madrid. Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus as well as Marcelo and Sergio Ramos from Champions League winners Real Madrid once again are up for selection in defence. Paulo Dybala from Juventus, Lionel Messi and Ballon D'or winner Cristiano Ronaldo complete the nominations in attack.
