Stephen King's Boogeyman Movie Casts Yellowjackets Star

A film adaptation of Stephen King's The Boogeyman has cast Yellowjackets star, Sophie Thatcher. Thatcher became known for her role as young Natalie in Showtime's Yellowjackets, which premiered in November 2021. The drama series combines the horror and thriller genres as it follows a high school girls soccer team after a plane crash leads to cannibalism, and it quickly boosted its younger stars into the spotlight with Thatcher among them. After her success in Yellowjackets, Thatcher also appeared as Drash in The Book of Boba Fett, a leader of the group of cyborgs who work for Boba Fett. Now, it seems Thatcher will need to draw on some of her Yellowjackets horror experience for her next role.

Deadline reports that Thatcher is set to star alongside Chris Messina in a film adaptation of Stephen King's short story, The Boogeyman. The Boogeyman is being produced by 21 Laps, the production company best known for Stranger Things, and is being directed by Rob Savage. Although the film was originally developed for Fox, it is now set to be released on Hulu. Production on The Boogeyman is reported to begin next month.

 

 

21 Laps' The Boogeyman will be the third adaptation of Stephen King's short story about a father recalling for his psychiatrist how a sadistic presence killed his children while he was grieving over his lost wife. The story was originally published in a collection of 20 short stories called The Night Shift, ten of which have been adapted as movies. Although film audiences may be familiar with the King of Horror's work by now, it should be interesting to see what new voice Thatcher and the rest of the cast can bring to this newest adaptation.
