  6. Deputy editor John McIlroy takes a look at the new Jaguar I-Pace, the British brand's first pure-electric car And so it begins. The Jaguar I-Pace, revealed last night via an online presentation heavy on celebrity and heavier still on self-congratulation, is the first salvo across the bows of Tesla from an established, ‘premium’ manufacturer. The British brand is desperately proud to have brought a pure-electric car of this type to market before Audi or Mercedes. But it’s the hype surrounding Tesla that it really wants to tap into. The specs look promising - nearly 400bhp and a 0-60mph time of 4.5 seconds. One of the segments during the launch was a video showing the I-Pace taking on - and beating - the Tesla Model X in a race. Range of about 300 miles under the tougher and supposedly more realistic WLTP test cycle should do the trick too - for now, at least.
  7. Bentley has announced a bespoke Bentayga by Mulliner pitched at the global equestrian community Bentley has announced a one-of-a-kind special edition Bentayga by Mulliner, inspired by the UK’s rich equestrian history. The exclusive Bentley Bentayga SUV, which comes painted in the lavish sounding ‘lustrous spruce’ shade (which looks a lot like British Racing Green), acts as a celebration of the marque’s partnership with The Jockey Club – an organisation which operates many of the most prominent racecourses in the UK. The special Bentayga uses the 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine from the standard range, producing 429bhp, 900Nm of torque and capable of propelling the large SUV to 60mph from a standstill in just 4.6 seconds. Sweeping in front of the driver is a Burr Walnut veneer, which is claimed to echo the design of some of the picture frames in The Jockey Club’s private rooms. The veneer also features a gold horse graphic, reminding occupants of the theme of this luxurious special edition Bentayga. As for the exterior, there is very little to distinguish the luxury SUV from other Bentaygas, and it sits on 21” diamond-turned black painted alloy wheels. The Bentley Bentayga by Mulliner will be displayed at the Bentley pavilion at the 2018 Cheltenham Festival from 13 – 16 March and as it has (at the time of writing) yet to be sold, it could well find a home during the festival. That being said, Bentley has yet to announce how much this prized car will cost and with the standard diesel Bentayga costing £135,800, expect whoever buys it to pay far ab
  8. The formula essentially remains the same for this latest version, but there’s been some significant evolution. The most obvious is that it now resembles a more traditional SUV, chiefly because the rear side windows dip deeper towards the waist, the successful aim being to improve visibility for passengers riding in the rear seats. Hyundai says that change was requested by owners with families, many based in the United States and South Korea where most Santa Fes are sold. So this remains an SUV mainly aimed at markets other than Europe, as it always has been. But that doesn’t negate its appeal here. There are plenty of other modernising changes, including adaptive instruments, a refreshed cabin architecture, a wider palette of thoughtfully coordinated trim colours and an improvement in materials quality.
  9. Sources say targets for the new car changed when Tesla announced its new Roadster, which, it is claimed, will accelerate from 0-62mph in 1.9sec in its slowest form and will have a 200kWh battery pack. The Croatian supercar firm confirmed to Autocar last year that a new model would arrive in 2018. It has since announced it will be revealed at the Geneva motor show. At the time, Monika Mikac, the Croatian firm’s chief operating officer said the car will be more comfortable and expensive than the Concept One, but also capable of even better performance. Rimac also described the model as "a true game-changer". With the working name Concept Two - "it definitely won’t be called that", said Mikac - the model will be “comfortable luxury” and a little bit bigger than the Concept One, but still a two-seater. Mikac said there are no plans to build a four-seater. She added that it will be “even more high-performance” than the Concept One. That car delivers 1224bhp and 1180lb ft of torque and has a 0-62mph sprint time of 2.5sec. It will also have more range than the current model – which has 205 miles depending on driving style – although Mikac acknowledged that range isn’t a major concern for its customers, given these cars aren’t used as daily drivers. While Rimac is keen to grow its car offering, its main revenue comes from being a supplier to other companies. It supplies the battery for the Koenigsegg Regera and will be supplying the battery and infotainment system for the upcoming Aston Martin Valkyrie.
  10. Dyson wants to grow its EV programme workforce by 300 people in a bid to ramp up the pace of development before its first car reaches the market in 2019. The British brand, a leader in vacuum cleaners and hand dryers, already has 400 employees focused on the project, but is now "looking to fill an additional 300 automotive vacancies" as it moves into a new location at Hullavington Airfield, a 750 acre campus that will be Dyson’s second research and development site in Britain. Dyson will use its low volume first model development and production period to establish relationships with suppliers, so that when it focuses on future models, which will include mass produced cars, it will already be an established manufacturer. It plans to produce two mass produced EV models after its low-volume debutant. If all goes well, the brand then intends to continue developing electric cars into the future.
  11. Alfa Romeo will unveil NRING editions of its Stelvio and Giulia Quadrifoglio models to the Geneva motor show, in celebration of its record-setting laps of the Nürburgring for a four-door saloon and an SUV. Performance is unchanged, so both cars retain the 503bhp 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine used by the respective standard variants. That means a top speed of 191mph and 0-62mph time of 3.9sec for the Giulia, and 176mph and 62mph in 3.8sec for the Stelvio. 108 of each NRING edition will be made, one for each year of Alfa Romeo’s history, with collectors and loyal Alfa Romeo customers targeted for the limited-run cars. The Stelvio’s SUV lap record of the Nürburgring of 7min 51.7sec, revealed back in September, broke the Range Rover Sport SVR’s record of 8min 14sec, while the Giulia set a lap record of 7min, 32sec. The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 has since deposed the Giulia QV with a time of 7min 21.2sec. The two variants will sit on Alfa Romeo's Geneva show stand alongside the Stelvio, which gets a new Performance Pack adding a locking rear differential, aluminium paddle shifters and Alfa’s active suspension system. A Giulia Veloce Ti edition, which adds a extra equipment and 'Turismo Internazionale' badging to Alfa’s warm Giulia will also appear, as will Competizione and Italia versions of the 4C Coupé and Spider.

    Kawasaki Z900 RS

We have had a lot of fun riding and reviewing the Kawasaki Z900. And Kawasaki India is expected to introduce the retro-styled version of the popular performance naked in 2018. The Kawasaki Z900 RS, as it's called, uses the same 948 cc, in-line four engine but the 'RS' employs a heavier flywheel and a four-into-one exhaust. Power output is expected to be similar to the Z900's, around 110 bhp, and the torque spread is expected to be wider, with more grunt lower in the revs. This is one modern classic we can't wait to see and experience!
  13. Two of the most highly anticipated bikes of 2018 will be Royal Enfield's new 650 cc twins. Both bikes share the same engine and platform, but have slightly different design and ergonomics. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is the true-blue modern classic and with a new 650 cc parallel-twin engine, we just can't wait to get our hands on this bike, as well as the Continental GT650. The all-new 648 cc, parallel-twin engine makes 47 bhp at 7,100 rpm and 52 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel through a six-speed transmission. While we have already seen the bikes up close, we have no idea how the engine sounds and performs. Well, expected launch is around April or so, so hopefully we get to ride it before the bike is finally launched!
  14. Tata Motors has been readying for its second innings after the long lull in the Indian market and after the Tiago and the Nexon’s success, it is time for more additions to the fleet. One of these new products is the Tata H5 SUV. This SUV has been built on the Land Rover platform and will be a Hyundai Creta rival. The Land Rover platform, with its aluminium-infused architecture is an expensive affair and fitting the economies for the Creta-segment is certainly laudable. The aluminium will certainly be replaced by more cost-effective materials but the inherent beauty of this platform will certainly make the H5 a force to reckon with.
  15. Being a mid-life update, the changes are more or less cosmetic. We haven’t spotted the test mules yet which means the launch would certainly be in the latter half of the year. Going by the segment standards, the Ciaz facelift will get LED Daytime running lamps and projector headlamps at least on the higher-spec trims. The bumpers will be tweaked along with the grille for a fresher look and we hope the Honda City-ish tail lamps go under the knife.
