Margot Robbie Confirms ‘Birds Of Prey’ Production To Begin In January

As far as the current slate of DCEU films, we only have a few confirmed titles and release dates. We know that the next film coming to audiences is December’s “Aquaman.” After that, there’s the new film with Zachary Levi titled “Shazam.” And of course, we can’t forget next year’s guaranteed blockbuster, “Wonder Woman 1984.” Well, according to Margot Robbie, the next film from the DCEU very well could be “Birds of Prey.”

 

We still don’t know a hell of a lot about “Birds of Prey,” other than the fact that Margot Robbie will bring her Harley Quinn character from “Suicide Squad” and that the film will be directed by Cathy Yan. Well, thanks to a few sources, the full picture is beginning to take shape, and we’re starting to pin down just what we might see when Harley teams up with a few other DC female characters to fight crime.

 

According to Robbie (via FlickeringMyth), the filming for “Birds of Prey” is scheduled to begin in January 2019. As far as we know, this makes the superhero team-up film the next film on the DC slate after “Wonder Woman1984.” The outlet also confirmed through Robbie that the film will actually be titled “Birds of Prey,” which is interesting because the comic book series hasn’t really featured Harley Quinn previously. So, it’ll be intriguing to see how much of the source material is present in the new film.

 

One part of the source material that may or may not change is Batgirl’s involvement. The comic series is famous for featuring Batgirl as a primary character, but thanks to Umberto Gonzalez’s Twitter, we know that Batgirl won’t appear in the R-rated team-up. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Batgirl’s alter ego Barbara Gordon won’t appear. “They didn’t say that on the record, rather Justin tweeted. Profound difference. Was decided recently no Batgirl. Attention to detail, I didn’t say Barbara Gordon, I said Batgirl,” he tweeted.

 

For those that don’t read the comics or are familiar with the history, Barbara Gordon has been in “Birds of Prey” as Batgirl, but also as Oracle. After Barbara was shot and paralyzed, she changed her superhero persona and became the eyes and ears of the team, providing computer know-how.

 

Either way, with production less than 6 months away, we should be getting more news about “Birds of Prey” shortly. Perhaps in a couple weeks at San Diego Comic-Con? Hmmmm.
