Here's what time 13 Reasons Why season 4 releases on Netflix this Friday, June 5, 2020. This marks the final season of the acclaimed teen drama.

Brian Yorkey’s Netflix original teen drama series 13 Reasons Why returns on Friday, June 5 for its fourth and final season – here's what time people can start watching. Adapted from Jay Asher’s 2007 novel Thirteen Reasons Why, the series follows the aftermath of Hannah Baker’s (Katherine Langford) suicide. When Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) receives a box of 13 cassette tapes that detail why exactly Hannah took her life, drama and mystery unfolds in their normally quiet town.

13 Reasons Why is known for its controversial topics and themes on suicide, sexual assault, mental health, and more. Throughout the series, Netflix and cast members have spoken on the issues present and have offered assistance to those finding themselves in similar situations. While 13 Reasons Why season 1 centers around Hannah Baker, season 2 details the aftermath of her parents’ discovery of the reasons why she took her own life, resulting in a lengthy legal battle. It premiered with lukewarm reviews from fans and critics following the success of the original season. Regardless, it was renewed for season 3.

Eight months after the events of 13 Reasons Why season 2, tensions continued to grow at Liberty High School after the murder of Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice). Fans can discover what happened after season 3 came to a close when 13 Reasons Why season 4 releases on Netflix at 12:01 am PT, or 3:01 am ET on Friday, June 5.

13 Reasons Why season 1 was followed by a short, 29-minute documentary titled 13 Reasons Why: Beyond The Reasons due to public and critical reception of its content. The cast and crew discussed their own struggles with the content matter along with the importance of recognizing that teenagers do face these difficulties in their lives. The backlash for handling the suicide of Hannah Baker ultimately resulted in the removal of the scene altogether. With a heavy dose of viewer warnings, Netflix found success in the teen drama adapted from the highly successful Jay Asher novel, regardless of its contents.

Despite 13 Reasons Why ending after season 4, it will undoubtedly receive attention for years to come. It speaks to a multitude of experiences and has impacted the streaming services’ ability to present controversial and sensitive topics in their original programming. Since 13 Reasons Why premiered in 2017, Netflix has invested more in original teen drama movies and television series. While waiting to see what happens to Clay Jensen and the rest of the students at Liberty High School, seasons 1-3 are available for streaming immediately. Come June 5 at midnight PT, every episode of 13 Reasons Why season 4 will be available for immediate streaming.
