Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 Shadow Dropped for PS4 and PS5

Old-school Call of Duty fans are rejoicing as the two most beloved entries in the Black Ops subseries, BO1 and BO2, are now available on PS4 and PS5. If players can act fast, they can even get these classic Call of Duty: Black Ops games for half-off, with their DLC marked down as well.

 

Obviously, the shadow drop is hugely exciting, as fans had expected a typical Friday release for the titles. July 10 had seemed like the likeliest date, with major Call of Duty events planned for the back half of the month — including news on the upcoming Modern Warfare 4 and the launch of Black Ops 7’s fifth season — making a later release less likely. The Trophy lists for these two Black Ops games being added to the PSN database only made their addition seem more likely, but players are getting to play the games a day earlier than they expected. And, thankfully, for cheaper than many assumed as well.

 

 

While fans were dreading the expected price points for these two Black Ops titles and their DLC, those with PlayStation Plus can get them for cheaper than expected. Sure, the base games are still $40 a piece, and the normal list price for their Season Passes is $30, but CoD fans can get all the content for cheaper until August 6. So long as users are subscribed to PlayStation Plus, they can get each Black Ops port for $20 and their associated Season Passes for $10 a piece.$60 for both of these classic CoD games and all their DLC is a much easier sell than the expected $140, as though they may be excellent, BO1 and BO2 are also old games, being 16 and 14 years old respectively.

 

The DLC being discounted is particularly impactful, as many of the post-launch Zombies maps are must-own, such as Call of the Dead and Mob of the Dead. For the first time ever, players can have every single CoD Zombies map downloaded on the same PlayStation console, though having the likes of BO3, BO4, and so on will take up one’s entire console storage.

 

 

Fortunately, because these classic Black Ops games retain their small file sizes (20.17 GB for BO1, 21.89 GB for BO2), players can have them on their hard drives alongside numerous modern games. Call of Duty’s frustratingly large file sizes have been a common complaint from many in recent years, so it’s great to have an option for some 6v6 chaos or round-based survival that doesn’t take up so much space. It’s also worth mentioning that the personalization packs for Black Ops 2, which used to cost $2 per bundle, are entirely free for the new ports and can be downloaded via a single pack. 

 

Apart from some disappointing feature removals like no wager matches, theater mode, or League Play, these are the exact same games that many players grew up on. With these CoD ports being requested for years, and heavily discounted for their first month of availability, they’re likely to sell extremely well and be very populated for years to come.
