  8. No Time to Die star Ana de Armas is pushing back against the term "Bond Girl," and for good reason. After production setbacks and countless delays, the 25th James Bond movie is finally about to arrive. Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, No Time to Die arrives in U.K. theaters today ahead of its U.S. bow in just one week. In addition to being a milestone for the franchise, it is also notable because it will be the final movie starring Daniel Craig as 007. According to the reviews, No Time to Die is a Bond movie unlike any other and a solid sendoff for Craig. While much of the buzz surrounding the film has been about Craig's departure, No Time to Die is also turning heads with its female characters. Perhaps more than any other Bond movie, Fukunaga's installment is putting a greater focus on the women that surround the spy. In addition to returning players like Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and Madeleine Swann (Léa Seydoux), No Time to Die features exciting newcomers Nomi (Lashana Lynch) and Paloma (de Armas), both of whom are capable agents of their own. Bond girls have been around for as long as the spy himself has, but only in recent years have their roles been scrutinized as audiences reassess Bond's womanizing ways. In fact, de Armas had some things to say about the term Bond girl in a feature from CNN. "I think this movie is 'Bond women,' not so much 'Bond girls,'" she asserted, pushing back against it. De Armas then elaborated, "They're highly skilled, they're powerful (and) they all show it in their own way. They're equals to Bond ... Times change, and I think that is reflected in the film." It does look like No Time to Die offers more agency to its female characters, something Craig has supported wholeheartedly. The actor has spoken about his desire to subvert the typical James Bond tropes and even admitted he shows more skin than the women in No Time to Die. Even if Bond himself doesn't quite change his attitudes towards women, there's some genuine strength in the characters of No Time to Die. Perhaps it really is time the phrase "Bond girls" gets swapped around. Despite this new feminist approach to the supporting characters, fans shouldn't expect a woman to take over the part of Bond in the future. There have been some calls for a gender-swapped iteration of Bond once Craig's tenure is over, but it hasn't received much support from those within the franchise. As both Craig and Bond producer Barbara Broccoli have said, it seems more worthwhile to create original, better characters for women than just twisting around the character's gender. That's certainly understandable, and if No Time to Die is any indication, the franchise will do much better in this department in the future. Source
  9. Halloween producer says Michael Myers will never cross over with Freddy or Jason. The original slasher movie icon Myers returned to movie screens in 2018’s Halloween reboot and will come back again to terrorize Haddonfield in next month’s sequel Halloween Kills. Halloween 2018 of course represented a reset for the long-running horror franchise as David Gordon Green took over directorial duties under the watchful eye of Blumhouse Productions. The OG Michael Myers obviously arrived way back in 1978 in John Carpenter’s brooding original Halloween. Indeed the slasher craze was for all intents and purposes kicked off by Carpenter’s Halloween, though the genre would quickly become a lot gorier and less technically polished. The masked-and-silent killer Myers would himself inspire loads of future slasher villains of course, some more effective than others. Of those Halloween-inspired slasher movie bad guys, Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th and Freddy Krueger of A Nightmare On Elm Street are undoubtedly the most iconic today. In later years, Jason and Freddy even met on-screen in a slasher crossover movie for the ages. For many horror fans the only thing missing from Freddy vs. Jason was the very first slasher movie icon, Michael Myers himself. With Myers now back in the pop culture consciousness thanks to Halloween Kills it seems like a good time to ask if a crossover could still happen between the Halloween killer and one of the great horror movie villains he inspired. However, it seems that possibility has been put to bed for now as Halloween producer Ryan Freimann recently told CBR it’s not in anyone's plans: We always run into that because you always want to have Freddy [Krueger] and Jason [Voorhees] and then Leatherface has kind of crept into there on the Mount Rushmore of those guys. I still like to think that Michael being the first is the best and I think each has their own [appeal]. Freddy definitely has his silliness and is interesting. I've never truly been a Jason fan but I find merit in all of them. We partner with Universal in their horror parks on the Titans of Terror where all four of them are represented but we try to really keep them on their own so I don't think you'll see a Michael vs. Jason or Michael vs. Freddy on the docket for the future. Things could of course change in the future but for now it sounds like the door has been slammed on Michael Myers facing Freddy or Jason on-screen. Getting past rights issues would no doubt be a huge obstacle to such an endeavor anyway, especially as regards Jason Voorhees, as the Friday the 13th franchise remains in limbo while all sorts of legal entanglements are laboriously sorted out. Were a dream crossover to happen despite apparent reluctance to go down that road, Michael Myers vs. Freddy would seem the most natural pairing, as the foul-mouthed Freddy provides some contrast with the silent and menacing Myers. Then again, Michael Myers vs. Jason might actually be hilarious just for the fact that neither of them ever speaks, perhaps turning the movie into a weird kind of slasher silent comedy. Another possibility would be for Myers and Jason to team up against Freddy, giving Freddy two unspeaking foils to play against. Of course that whole “Freddy battles silent slasher movie villain” thing was already done in Freddy vs. Jason with at best middling results. Ultimately the caretakers of the Halloween legacy are probably correct in their belief that Michael Myers should be kept as his own separate entity, going about his slasher business in the Halloween universe. Whatever they’re doing must be smart because Halloween is the one iconic slasher series that’s still actively going, while Friday the 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street find themselves on the sidelines. 10. The Batman actor discusses playing a Black Jim Gordon in the movie. One of DC's most hotly-anticipated movies, The Batman will see Twilight alum Robert Pattinson suit up as a new version of the Caped Crusader. In the movie, Pattison's younger Batman will uncover corruption in Gotham City, manifesting his skills as the “The World’s Greatest Detective.” The Batman is set on Earth-2, and it doesn't share connections with the other films in the DC Extended Universe. It was originally supposed to premiere this year, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic it has been delayed until March 4, 2022. Besides Pattinson and Wright, The Batman stars Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler, an emerging serial killer who is presumably the film's main antagonist. Colin Farrell is playing the DC villain Penguin. His role in the movie is somewhat brief, but WB has already ordered an HBO Max spin-off series for Penguin, which will explore his story more comprehensively. Zoë Kravitz is attached as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, while Andy Serkis is taking on the role of Alfred Pennyworth, Batman's butler and mentor. The Batman also features No Time To Die actor Jeffrey Wright as the Gotham City Police Department Commissioner James Gordon. Wright is the first actor of color to play the part, although he emphasizes that there is nothing unusual about his casting. In a recent conversation with Haute Living, Wright reflected on playing a Black James Gordon in The Batman. He says that the buzz about him being the first person of color to step into the role is pointless, as the Batman lore is quite progressive. It doesn't hold on to the white supremacy of the past; rather "the characters within Gotham City are fluid, evolving creatures.” Read what Wright said below: “If you give it a little bit of thought, Batman and the characters within Gotham City are fluid, evolving creatures. It would be doing a disservice, in fact, to these stories and to the history if we were actually beholden to the details of the original. When Shakespeare wrote female characters, they were written to be played by young boys. Are we to hold on to that tradition now in the 21st century because that was the limited lane that people were allowed at the time? It’s ridiculous. Beyond that, Gordon is many things. He’s relative to Gotham City, to the Gotham City police department, to Batman, to justice and to corruption — and none of those things require that he be white. There have been some who I think have made more of it than they probably should, which I think reveals some deficiency [in our country]. In its first iteration in 1939, Gotham City was fashioned after an American metropolis much like New York City or Chicago. In 1939, New York was 90 percent white. The power structure in law enforcement in that city at that time would not have been inclusive of someone who looked like me; that’s the historical fact. But as these stories have continually evolved over these many decades, not only through the comics but also through the films, they’ve been reinterpreted through writers, directors and actors to be more contemporary to the times than they were made. Right now, if we were to imagine a Gotham City based on an American metropolis, to think of it as a place that’s only inhabited by white people is to be pretty idiotic. To be beholden to the demographic reality of 1939 urban America — what the f–k is the purpose of that?” As he has indicated in past interviews, Wright is pretty enthusiastic about his turn as James Gordon in The Batman. He is quite fond of director Matt Reeves' vision, commending him for imbuing a sense of gritty reality with relevant themes like corruption and class divisions into his work. The actor also says that Gotham City in The Batman is unlike all other Gothams - it's decidedly "palpable" with a relatable aesthetic and setting. Wright has high hopes for the movie, although he isn't the only one confident about its success. Recently, both Pattinson and Serkis revealed that they were sure that the movie would be amazing. Choosing a diverse set of actors was an important step that The Batman was always meant to take. Previously, DCEU movies have received flack for minimizing the roles played by actors of color, with the Justice League - Ray Fisher controversy being the most prominent case in point. To avoid that, it was important that The Batman made intelligent casting choices. Additionally, Wright is an extremely talented performer who is killing it on both TV and in films. His casting comes as a major upgrade to the Batman lore, which previously did not pay enough attention to representation. Hopefully, Wright's inclusion in The Batman will broaden the horizons for the franchise, allowing more opportunities to deserving professionals of color. Source
  11. In 1984, three guys from Massachusetts banded together over a love of creating powerful and personal rock music. By 1989, one founding member had already left the band. Now, a documentary reveals the story behind this grunge band: Dinosaur Jr. Tori Amos Shares Melodic New Song “Speaking With Trees” On Oct. 1, theaters across the UK and Europe will begin showing Freakscene — The Story of Dinosaur Jr. Although the North American release date has not yet been announced, the trailer for the documentary provides a glimpse into their intriguing story. The trailer opens with lingering regret: frontman J Mascis drives through the snow, questioning how anyone could think the life of a musician is “fun.” The following clips, however, would have you believe this life is exhilarating — the band played show after show, starred on the David Letterman Show and are praised by dedicated fans. But they never cared about the lifestyle. They only cared about the music. “We all grew up with the same mentality about music,” Bob Mould says in the trailer. “Very aggressive, very forward, very loud. But also melodic.” The trailer alone reveals how the band enjoyed creating and performing music, but still struggled with touring. Between the van breaking down and personal tensions between members, the band got so close — to each other and to the art — that they fell apart. “If I had stayed in the band,” Lou Barlow says, “It would have destroyed my love for music.” Years after this split, the band reformed in 2005 and has released five albums since. Their most recent is Sweep It Into Space, which combines gritty distortion and peaceful mid-tempo tracks. The band was also supposed to tour this fall, but is postponing dates due to COVID concerns. 12. Although hard rock might not be the first genre that comes to mind when thinking about Christmas music, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. On Nov. 19, Eagles of Death Metal is releasing a 6-track EP of Christmas classics. Zac Brown Cancels Upcoming Shows Due To Positive COVID-19 Test The band has already released one of the tracks, “O Holy Night.” Other than the pantsless, tattooed Jesse “Boots Electric” Hughes on the EP’s cover, it appears to be like any other cheery holiday song. This one song provides a rather stark contrast from the band’s past songs, from the skate-rock “Miss Alissa” to the more chilling “Wannabe in L.A.” But, this may have been their intention: according to an article on BlabberMouth, Hughes said “Just a few songs to warm your heart during Christmas time. I hope you like them. May Christmas bring peace to you all. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, I love you, and God bless you all.” Although the band hasn’t released new music since their 2019 cover album, EODM Presents Boots Electric Performing The Best Songs We Never Wrote, in May bassist Jennie Vee worked with Deap Valley on “I Like Crime.” And in 2019, they played at Social Distortion’s 40th-anniversary concert. Earlier this year, Hughes made controversial statements on social media when claiming that COVID was created to push the vaccine. And in 2018, he received criticism after calling anti-gun protesters “pathetic.” The band is going on a 24th-anniversary tour this year, kicking off in Brighton, U.K., at the end of November. These holiday tracks are sure to be a primary part of the winter shows, and perhaps even part of the second leg of the tour in March and April 2022. 13. Slipknot has been one of the leading heavy metal bands since the Iowa-based group formed in 1995. Now, some of the members’ sons have formed a band — Vended — have formed a metal group of their own. According to an article on Loudwire, Vended performed their recently released “Asylum” and “Antibody” over the weekend at Knotfest Iowa. Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp Join Forces on New Single “Wasted Days” “Asylum” begins with punchy drums that lead into a synchronized headbanging, followed by a blue-painted frontman Griffin Taylor — son of Slipknot’s lead Corey Talor — screaming passionately at the edge of the stage. A natural performer, Taylor stops midway through the screaming to announce, “I want to see every motherfucker in here move.” Right when it feels as though the song is about to end, drummer Simon Crahan, Clown’s son, picks up the rhythm for another round of deep, chesty yells. “Antibody” likewise carries powerful performance energy, but with slightly more melodic guitar riffs. Bassist Jeremiah Pugh and guitarists Cole Espeland and Connor Grodzicki can flawlessly headbang and move in rhythm all while intricately playing their parts, seamlessly blending the talent of a musician and attitude of the audience. Knotfest has been going on since 2012, but Vended only played their first headline show in 2020. The group is also scheduled to perform at Knotfest L.A. on Nov. 5, which will also feature Bring Me the Horizon, Killswitch Engage and Fever 333. The band was also planning on bringing their festival to Brazil, but had to postpone the year’s event until December 2022. Source
  14. On Nov. 5, New-Zealand based indie artist Connan Mockasin is releasing his latest album, Jassbusters Two with Mexican Summer records. In anticipation of the sequel album, which follows his 2018 Jassbusters, the artist released the first single “Flipping Poles.” Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp Join Forces on New Single “Wasted Days” The track opens with an experimental sound that borders between someone screaming and fans cheering. Once the music begins, however, it’s much softer: with a maraca percussion and cheery bass, it feels evocative of Jack Johnson. This jazz track is more than the soundtrack of studying in a coffee shop, it’s the sound of unwinding with those you love most. Mockasin’s voice doesn’t appear until halfway into the song, an airy surprise that perfectly complements the simultaneously relaxing and moody instrumentals. It’s both smooth and piercing, soulful and untroubled. Like its predecessor, Jassbusters Two has been recorded by a fictional set of schoolteachers. Both albums are expected to be laid-back, but the newest one far more nonchalant than the former. “Jassbusters was the first record I’d done as a band,” Connan said in a press release. “I really enjoyed it, and wanted to make more music while we were still in character as this group of music teachers.” The artist is scheduled to perform in the psychedelic arts and music Levitation Festival in Austin, TX on Oct. 29. The Black Angels, Thundercat and The Hives are also on the lineup for the Halloween weekend festival. Jassbusters Two Tracklist 1. Jass Two 2. K is for Klassical 3.Flipping Poles 4. In Tune 5. 15. Courtney Barnett is gearing up for the release of her latest LP Things Take Time, Take Time, with a new single released today. The third single, “Write a List of Things to Look Forward To” is ” a jangly track that comes accompanied by a video directed by Christina Xing, where Courtney sends and receives gifts and letters” according to brooklynvegan.com. In true Courtney Barnett fashion, the song follows a folky guitar beat with vocals, an upbeat song and its accompanying video which shows Barnett receiving gifts and writing letters to send out. The almost three minute video is directed by Christina Xing, also known for her work on “Space Girl” by Frances Forever and “Wish You Were Gay” by Claud. Barnett and Xing exist within the same Americana spheres, giving the video a feeling of old nostalgia, the simpler times where receiving packages was a big deal. Barnett has been releasing a lot of music leading up to the release of her lP which comes out in November via Mom+Pop/Marathon Artists. So far she has released “Rae Street,” which mxdwn writer Caroline Fisher says “revel(s) in the peak of her musicianship, exploring deeply personal concepts of love, healing, renewal and self-discovery while the artist documents her life’s happiest moments.” “Before You Gotta Go” was the second single, followed by “Write A List of Things To Look Forward To.” She was also recently part of the tribute album for Velvet Underground, for which she performed, “I’ll Be Your Mirror.” Source
  16. Since its inception in June 2009, the annual WWE Extreme Rules event is one of the best shows of the year, showcasing some of the more brutal matches and painful moments that are reminiscent of the Attitude Era and late ‘90s Extreme Championship Wrestling. Over the years, fans have watched as Brock Lesnar challenged John Cena in his first match in nearly a decade, witnessed Seth Rollins dive from the crowd onto multiple opponents, and other extreme moments. With Extreme Rules 2021 right around the corner, now is the perfect time to take a break and look back on some of the great moments from the event’s storied history. John Cena Punches Brock Lesnar With His Chain-Wrapped Fist (Extreme Rules 2012) Extreme Rules 2012, which took place at the famed Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois back in May 2012, is often regarded as not only as one of the best editions of the annual pay-per-view event but also one of the most memorable WWE shows of the modern era. With awesome matches like the two-out-of-three falls contest between Daniel Bryan and Sheamus, and the Chicago Street Fight between CM Punk and Chris Jericho, the main event Extreme Rules match between John Cena and a returning Brock Lesnar had to be great. This match had something for everyone: technical mat-based wrestling, stiff punches, and plenty of weapons, including a steel chain that Cena wrapped around his fist before he punched a charging Lesnar. That blow was enough for Cena to put Lesnar in the Attitude Adjustment (on a set of ring steps) and get the 1-2-3. Seth Rollins Jumps Off The Balcony Onto Evolution (Extreme Rules 2014) Extreme Rules 2014 is another bright spot in the event’s history, and one of the reasons for that is the six-man tag team match between The Shield and Evolution. Although this wasn’t an Extreme Rules match, the two competing factions used the entire arena as their battlefield, where they waged war against one another. Near the end of the match, Triple H and Randy Orton isolated Dean Ambrose from his teammates in the crowd and started putting a beating down on him while Batista took care of Roman Reigns in the ring. But, Evolution forgot about Seth Rollins (just one month before he turned against his longtime allies). As the camera pans up, you see Rollins standing on a balcony in the crowd just moments before he jumps off and takes out Triple H and Orton in spectacular fashion. Reigns is able to make quick work of the future Guardians of the Galaxy star in the ring, and The Shield claims another victory. Randy Orton Brings Back The ‘Punt Kick’ Against Big Show (Extreme Rules 2013) Extreme Rules 2013, a.k.a. the final edition of the event to be held exclusively on pay-per-view before the inception of the WWE Network (which has since been replaced with WWE Network on Peacock), is mostly remembered for being the night all three members of The Shield became champions (Dean Ambrose won the U.S. Title, while Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins captured the Tag Team Championship), but it was also the night Randy Orton brought back his feared “Punt Kick” against Big Show in The Viper’s hometown of St. Louis. The only Extreme Rules match on the card, the one-on-one bout against the two WWE veterans was a hard-hitting affair that saw them resort to various weapons and situations in an attempt to get the upper hand. When Randy Orton couldn’t take down Big Show with two RKOs, he pulled out his old finishing move: the Punt Kick. Following a swift kick to the head, Big Show was out and Orton got the pinfall victory. Ryback Tackles John Cena Through The Stage (Extreme Rules 2013) Ryback is nothing but a distant memory for some WWE fans, and an unknown for others, but there was a stretch of time early in the heavyweight's run where he was one of the most exciting wrestlers on WWE TV. During his peak, Ryback was put into a feud with John Cena and one of the highlights of the brief rivalry was the Last Man Standing match at Extreme Rules 2013. The painful match between the two beefed-up superstars was hard-hitting, and featured its fair share of memorable moments. The biggest of those, one that made Ryback look like an absolute beast, took place when Ryback tackled John Cena through a stage panel. That panel didn’t stand a chance, as the duo busted through it on their way to the ground. The match, however, ended in a no contest. Everything About Jeff Hardy And Edge’s Championship Ladder Match (Extreme Rules 2009) Extreme Rules made its debut in June 2009 and featured a Ladder match between Jeff Hardy and World Heavyweight Champion Edge. Going into the match, the WWE superstars had a shared history that went all the way back to October 1999, and both are still in the list of the top five who’ve competed in most matches of that type. Despite the high expectations going in, the bitter rivals did not disappoint. Everything about this match is still great 12 years later. After beating each other on ladders, with ladders, and around ladders, the match finally ends with Edge getting stuck in one of them, allowing Jeff Hardy to climb up and claim his first World Heavyweight Championship. Daniel Bryan Performs A Flying Headbutt From A Forklift (Extreme Rules 2014) The main match between WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan and his former tag team partner, Kane, at Extreme Rules 2014 took place just one month after Bryan took home the gold in the electrifying WrestleMania 30 main event, and served as his first and only title defense before he relinquished the championship to undergo neck surgery. This match had a ton of insane moments, like Kane lighting a table on fire and attempting to throw Daniel Bryan through it, and the use of random luggage in a parking garage, before Bryan used a forklift to carry Kane back to the ring. With a prone Kane in the ring, Bryan jumps off the forklift and delivers a flying headbutt. It didn't make any sense, but was it awesome! Bonus: Rey Mysterio ‘Loses His Eye’ (Extreme Rules 2020) Okay, before wrapping things up, I have to talk about the “Eye for an Eye” match between Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules from July 2020. In a year that saw spectacles like the Boneyard match and whatever went on between John Cena and Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36, Mysterio losing his eye was truly something to behold. I mean, the stipulation was that the match would go on until one of the competitors lost an eye, and that did in fact happen (wink, wink) after Rollins dragged Mysterio’s face along the ringside steps. The cherry on top came when Rollins lost his lunch at ringside. Those were some of the greatest and most painful moments from WWE Extreme Rules so far. Who knows, maybe this list will get a little longer once WWE Extreme Rules 2021 airs live, Sunday, September 26, on Peacock. Source
  17. The Australian singer-songwriter Ben Lee has released his newest song “Born For This Bullshit” along with an accompanying music video. mxdwn PREMIERE: Joshua Crumbly Unveils Smooth New Single “C.S.C” From Upcoming Album ForEver His newest song features Sad13 who assists in creating a catchy indie rock atmosphere full to the brim with peculiar synths and distorted guitar riffs. The eccentric accompanying music video takes listeners on a psychedelic journey through space and beyond. Lee is shown in the video wearing only a cowboy hat and matching pink shoes. Over his crotch are various switching images including that of a koala bear and a green mushroom. Lee gets sucked into a UFO before a flurry of jump cuts ensue. With the background of the endless void of space behind him, Lee dances amongst bubbles, confetti, flowers, flashing triangles of light and many other objects. This otherworldly music video pairs well with the backing track as it enhances the dizzying effect of the layered harmonies and instruments alongside Lee’s soft vocals. As Lee states in the song, “There’s nothing worse than boring.” His newest music video is anything but that. “Born For This Bullshit” is the first single from Lee’s upcoming album I’m Fun! which is set to release next year on June 17. Lee’s last album came in 2019 with the release of Quarter Century Classix. While his 2019 project might not have lived up to the hype, Lee’s newest single has fans excited for what’s to come. Source
  18. The Regrettes, an American punk band from Los Angeles, has released their newest song “Monday” along with an accompanying music video. SZA Shares Emotional New Video For “The Anonymous Ones” The group’s newest song is said to be inspired by and written over last year’s pandemic lockdown. “Monday” contains a catchy pop-punk sound with some tasteful claps and a groovy bassline. The pre-chorus encapsulates the main concept of the song well stating that lead singer Lydia Night is undergoing “an existential crisis and it’s only a Monday.” The accompanying music video is set in the 2000s and shows Night getting ready for a school dance while being stalked and apprehended by her pink mental health demon. “Monday” displays the awkward reality behind the teenage years of life and all the struggles that come with it. Not to mention that the video also contains a guest appearance from pop star Olivia Rodrigo as the DJ of the dance. In reference to the song’s release, Night talked about her mental state at the time of the track’s creation. “At the time I was pretty much at the peak of my anxiety disorder, every morning was waking up and absolutely dreading the idea of functioning and being “productive” (whatever the hell that even means) for another day,” said Night. Night additionally said that the song marks an important moment in time for her. “Part of the healing process for me is really learning and trying my best to keep on dancing the pain away so I hope people can relate to that and dance with me, even if it’s not at a show and in the safety of their own kitchen,” said Night. In July of last year, the group released their song “I Love Us” which showed evolution and experimentation in their sound overall. Two months prior, the band released the relatable quarantine anthem “What Am I Gonna Do Today?” Source

The Scottish synth-pop trio CHRVCHES has paid homage to the iconic grunge-rock pop star Avril Lavigne with the release of their cover of “I’m With You.” mxdwn PREMIERE: Joshua Crumbly Unveils Smooth New Single “C.S.C” From Upcoming Album ForEver CHRVCHES’ version of the iconic 2002 release turns the emotion up a notch as singer Lauren Mayberry belts overtop the soothing guitar strums with ease. The cover was released as part of Apple Music’s Home Session alongside a new version of the group’s recent single “California” from their latest album Screen Violence. According to Consequence, Mayberry called Lavigne’s original release “a classic banger-ballad of our times.” It is safe to say that Mayberry and the rest of the group did well maintaining the classic feel to the track while also providing their own twist. CHRVCHES’ latest album Screen Violence released in late August. Along with the release of their album, the band dropped a lyric video for their single “California.” Recently the group delivered a stripped-back cover of the classic goth-rock track “Cry Little Sister” as well. 20. Rebel Rock has announced the cancellation of their four-day festival in Orlando, Florida due to issues surrounding the recent weather implications. Whitechapel Release Sinister New Video For “A Bloodsoaked Symphony” Rebel Rock released the following statement on their Facebook regarding the cancellation: “We are deeply and utterly devastated to announce the cancellation of this weekend’s Rebel Rock Festival.” “After this week’s severe weather and despite our crew’s effort to improve the ground conditions around the Main Stage over the last three days, our venue partner has deemed the area unfit for artists, crews, vendors, and fans. We were able to get in the Taco Metal Party on Thursday by using the B-Main grounds while continuing to work on the conditions of the Main Stage grounds. The amount of water dropped this week simply proved to be too much to clear to provide you a safe festival environment and experience. We can’t tell you how heartbreaking it is to see two years of work be tackled by mother nature.” “We’ll share more information about refunds as soon as possible.” According to Blabbermouth, Rebel Rock had been forced to rearrange their lineup after several high-profile groups had to cancel. Incubus announced on Tuesday that they were dropping out of the festival due to COVID-19 concerns. The group had originally stepped into a headlining spot for Limp Bizkit as they abandoned the rest of their tour shortly after performing at Lollapalooza in late July. Incubus and Limp Bizkit were just two of the many groups forced to withdraw from the festival for various reasons. Here Source
  21. School is back in session just in time for fall and Guns N’ Roses has just the song to set the mood. The single “Hard Skool” is one of many songs that was originally written for the band’s sixth album but wasn’t released. The song starts with a bassline from bassist Duff McKagan who recently returned to the band in 2016. With the ringing of a school bell, the guitars kick the song into high gear, curteousy of Richard Fortis and Slash, who also returned to the G N’R lineup in 2016. The song is a blast from the past in every way. A pure adrenaline rush of 80s metal with blistering guitar leads and solos, powerful drums and Axl Rose’s vocals that haven’t aged a day. The band played this song in public for the first time during a soundcheck at the Wrigley’s Field stadium in Chicago. Those in attendance had reacted positively to the new track. G N’ R have also released another single, “ABSUЯD” as well as joining rapper Post Malone in covering Alice in Chains’ “Rooster” and Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs”. Source

  23. When planning a trip to the Disneyland Resort, the single most important decision you're probably going to make is where to stay. For some, a hotel is simply the place to keep your stuff and get some sleep before getting up and going back to the theme parks. For others, however, a hotel is part of the vacation experience. Some may plan entire days on a trip to Disney Parks to just lounge around the pool or otherwise take advantage of the various amenities available. And if you're looking for an experience like no other at Disneyland, then look no further than the resort's top hotel, the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.v While the Disneyland Hotel will always be the location with the [most historic connection](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisneylandHotel(California) to Disneyland, the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa has been the premier spot to stay since it opened in 2001. And while it's certainly true that the Grand Californian isn't the cheapest place to stay in the area, that doesn't mean that isn't worth every penny. Here are some of the reasons to consider a room at the Grand Californian. Beautiful Craftsman Architecture And A Peaceful Atmosphere While one maybe should not judge a book completely by its cover, that's always where we start, isn't it? But as far as first impressions go, the Grand Californian makes a pretty impressive one. The Craftsman-style design is massive in scope while still being welcoming to visitors. The lobby is full of comfortable chairs and sofas that one can relax in. Kick back and read a book curled up next to the indoor or outdoor fireplaces. Gardens are a normal feature of Craftsman-style architecture, but at the Grand Californian, the outdoor space more closely resembles a redwood forest than a garden, fitting due to its proximity to the Grizzly Peak area of Disney California Adventure. If you want to spend part of your Disneyland vacation feeling like you're as far as a way from a theme park as you can get, there are few better ways than taking a stroll through the trees. Considering how big the hotel is and how many people are there, the space gives people the ability to spread out. You never feel crowded and things rarely get too loud. Tenaya Stone Spa It is the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, and after a period of time without an actual functioning spa, (though much of that was due to pandemic closures), the brand-new Tenaya Stone Spa recently opened. The spa will be limited to guests of the Disneyland Resort hotels for a period of time, so if you want to take advantage of it for the foreseeable future, you'll need to get a room at either the Grand Californian or one of the other two hotels. What makes the Tenaya Stone Spa so unique is that it was designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, which means the spa was given the same exquisite attention to detail and attention to story as your favorite theme park attraction. The amenities available at the spa will certainly be the same as other places, but the way they are presented is not. There's no place quite like this. Napa Rose Finding a place to eat at Disneyland Resort isn't exactly hard. There are plenty of places to go if all you're looking for is food to keep you going to the next attraction. If, however, you want something more, if you want a meal that's special, then there is no place better to go than the Grand Californian's Napa Rose. It is, without question, the finest dining experience you will find in the resort... or at least it's the best that won't cost you $15,000. There are some other very nice restaurants inside the other hotels (though some have recently been closed for good) and inside the parks as well, but to be honest, none of them are quite as special as Napa Rose. If you're going to have one truly fine dining experience while visiting Disneyland, the Napa Rose is the place to have it. In addition to simply having the best menu and wine list, it also has some unique dining experiences you won't find elsewhere. Access To Disney California Adventure The Grand Californian would be an amazing hotel anywhere in the world, but part of what makes it a truly great place to stay is in its location within the Disneyland Resort. In this case, it's located directly adjacent to Disney California Adventure, and the hotel even has a dedicated entrance to the theme park that you're only able to use if you're staying in the hotel. None of the other Disneyland hotels give you this sort of theme park access. Not only is it easy to walk right out of your hotel into the park, but if you have got a room on that side of the hotel, you can just open your window and are able to see the park, feel its energy and possibly even (when it returns) watch World of Color from your balcony. It also means that if you need to take a break, getting back to your room is that much easier than staying anywhere else in the area. Connection To Downtown Disney But the connection to the theme parks isn't the only way that the Grand Californian is perfectly situated within the Disneyland Resort. While the Disneyland Hotel is found at the opposite end of Downtown Disney from the theme parks, and the Paradise Pier Hotel is even further away, the Grand California drops you right into the middle of Downtown Disney, giving you easy access to shopping and additional dining options just outside. If you want to sneak out to grab some ice cream at Salt & Straw (and you should totally do that), there's no hotel better situated to make the run. If you want to grab a morning Starbucks before starting your day, it's basically right around the corner. After a long day in the parks, you'll be coming back to your hotel room exhausted more often than not. With the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, that trip back is simply shorter and easier than if you're staying anywhere else. And as you walk back into that massive lobby, it just doesn't feel like you're coming back to a hotel. The Grand Californian never feels like it's simply a place to keep your stuff. It's a resort hotel designed for you to enjoy the experience of being there. One can't pretend the Grand Californian isn't on the more expensive side; it's generally the more expensive of the three Disneyland Resort hotels. But even if it's the sort of place you might only stay once, that one stay will almost certainly be worth it once you take advantage of all it has to offer. Source
