  7. Viewers said goodbye to the Pearsons in This Is Us’ emotional but narratively simple finale, which took a break from series’ trademark plot twists and timeline misdirects to show a somber Big Three giving unheard eulogies at the funeral of Rebecca Pearson. Creator Dan Fogelman had mapped out the saga’s ending years ago, allowing him to create mysteries and plant ideas that would pay off down the road. But did it have to end so soon? Fogelman opened up about the conversations he had with NBC about the possibility of This Is Us lasting longer than six seasons. Dan Fogelman decided pretty early on that This Is Us would end after a sextet of seasons. For one thing, he was working with child actors playing Kate, Randall and Kevin at different ages, so his time to capture those characters at specific points in their lives without puberty taking over was already limited. He told EW that despite initially agreeing with NBC to do six seasons, the network did approach him about extending the story due to the drama’s primetime success: As the show was getting successful, I recognized there was going to be commercial reasons to continue it for as long as possible, and I held firm to the plan. I was pretty clear [in season 3]: 'If you pick it up for another three seasons, I'll commit my life to doing this for that amount of time, and then that will be it.' You mean we could have had more This Is Us? There are definitely stories I would have loved to see more of, like the development of Kate and Phillip’s relationship or anything having to do with Jack and Rebecca’s grandchildren. Damn you, Fogelman! I’m just kidding with that damning, of course, because without the creator standing firm on his six-season limit, he wouldn’t have been able to plan all those delicious relationship twists. Without knowing when the show was going to end, he wouldn’t have been able to tell the story he wanted to tell. Dan Fogelman said NBC execs were never pushy about asking him to go longer, but they did let him know they were open if he changed his mind: The conversations were flattering, and they were never forceful. They were always delivered with the right tone, which was like, 'We know what you said, but we're checking in.' And there have been moments where I was like, 'Oh God, I love these people I'm working with.' But you have to stick to the plan. The only thing that's kept us afloat all these years was knowing where we were going. This Is Us was unquestionably quality over quantity, and fans are surely happy to have gotten what they did from six seasons. It’s interesting to know he might have been tempted to change his plan, but the end result is a good indication he made the right choice. Not everything about how he mapped out the timeline was perfect, however — he said he had one regret — but he insists ending it when it did was the right thing to do: As much as I'm going to miss these people, I do believe it was the right decision for the show with every part of my being. This Is Us fans are unquestionably sad to see the story end, but as hard as it is to admit, I’d rather them leave us wanting more than forcing a less-than-ideal story or having to worry that the little Big Three actors were getting too big. 8. After over 100 hours of testimony across six weeks of Johnny Depp’s $50 million defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, the jurors have finished hearing evidence as of Thursday. But in these final days in court, there were certainly more viral moments, including Amber Heard’s lawyer Elaine Bredehoft being struck with a sick burn by a witness while questioning him at the stand. Johnny Depp’s lawyer Camille Vasquez had a memorable reaction as well. Former TMZ employee Morgan Tremaine took the stand on Wednesday to share his interactions with the Amber Heard/Johnny Depp relationship back in 2016. While he was testifying, Elaine Bredehoft alleged that he was trying to get his “15 minutes of fame,” leading to a spitfire moment in court. Check it out, per Law & Crime Network: here Tremaine shared that he stood to “gain nothing” from taking the stand and argued that he was putting himself in the “target” of TMZ, which actually objected to their former employee testifying prior to the judge ruling against the organization. He said he was not seeking any 15 minutes, but she was “welcome to speculate.” The burn occurred directly after that when Tremaine said he “could say the same taking Amber Heard as a client.” Elaine Bredehoft fired back, saying he was “a little argumentative” before he shot back saying he found his own claims to be “purely logical.” The former TMZ employee was on the stand to discuss an assignment relating to Amber Heard back in 2016 when she was filing a restraining order against Depp. In the video, you can see Camille Vasquez sitting down on the right who holds back a laugh while Bredehoft and Tremaine had their viral back and forth. Tremaine claimed that they dispatched cameras to a downtown Los Angeles courthouse, which “very often” come from sources such as publicists, managers, agents, lawyers and celebrities themselves, via Newsweek. He said the goal was to capture Heard as she was leaving, along with catching her as she was going to “stop and turn towards the camera to display the bruise on the right side of her face.” The witness also referenced a video of Johnny Depp slamming kitchen cabinets, which had been shown multiple times in court over the years. He claimed that TMZ received the video via their email tip line, which the outlet was able to verify and publish within 15 minutes of it being sent out. Tremaine also shared that videos only can be published if they were shot by TMZ, source-verified by the original copyright owner or obtained directly from the source. There were tons of viral moments during the six-week trial, including Johnny Depp’s reaction to an expert witness talking about Willy Wonka and another one where a Disney executive was asked about Pirates of the Caribbean. We’ll look forward to reporting more about the developments of the case alongside coverage about upcoming 2022 movies. Source
  9. There is just something about live television that makes it so much more riskier than pre-recorded, even when it comes to the most practiced and polished TV personalities. For instance, American Idol has seen some wild things happen over the last two decades, from contestants abruptly dropping out of the competition to emotions getting the better of everone. The music-heavy series has also blessed us with its share of unplanned wardrobe malfunctions. Longtime host Ryan Seacrest was the latest victim of this ep-peen-demic, and it sparked enough attention that his stylist even spoke out about it. During the Season 20 finale on May 22, Ryan Seacrest was advised he needed to make a quick change during a commercial break in regards to his underwear, because what he had on (or didn't) was apparently too revealing. Viewers didn't need to be super eagle-eyed to see what the issue was, either. Seacrest shared the story on Live With Kelly and Ryan! after the fact, saying things got frantic when it was clear viewers were getting an eyeful. In his words: Apparently, America voted and said there was anatomy in the shot. There was just panic about it, and we changed it. The fact that things went as smoothly as they did after that was all thanks to Seacrest’s longtime stylist Miles Siggins, who provided some extra underwear for Seacrest to slip into to shield...things...from America. Thanks to Siggins' efforts (or no thanks to them, depending on your perspective) the potentially embarrassing moment soon passed, though the moment will forever live on in tight-fitting memories. https://www.instagram.com/mrmiles_siggins/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=0399a829-0a18-4ac0-b20a-88ca2d74c3ef Siggins took to Instagram to address the incident while also namechecking the famed brand that was used to save the day. Ryan Seacrest may be a few years shy of 50, but he can definitely still model for Calvin Klein if he chooses to. He's also more than welcome to continue having more wardrobe malfunctions next season on American Idol, whether they’re on purpose or accidental. Having something quasi-exposed on live television in front of millions of viewers is definitely tough, but at least Seacrest is able to laugh about it and probably learn from it. Even though American Idol is known for creating the next superstar, the series is also known for creating some unforgettable moments. Katy Perry has also had her fair share of malfunctions, and not all that long ago, either. The singer found herself in a total SpongeBob SquarePants situation, not once but twice, with the first time happening in 2018 and then again back in March 2022. When compared to Seacrest’s scary health update late last year, at least this situation was less serious and more comedic. And now, he’ll forever have this moment not only ingrained in his memory but also on video that will probably never be erased. While the series is now done for the season, the American Idol finale is streaming on Hulu, so if you want to see Seacrest’s penis panic… er, I mean, see who is crowned the next American Idol, go for it. 10. Law & Order is saying goodbye to a major star, with the news breaking just one week after the Season 21 finale, which was also the first revival season. The revival was headlined by Sam Waterston and Anthony Anderson as the two familiar faces from the original run of the series, but now one is officially not going to be back. Anthony Anderson is not returning as Detective Kevin Bernard for Season 22 despite earlier indications that he would be back. Anthony Anderson’s initial deal to return as Kevin Bernard was for one season, and Deadline reports that he returned to help relaunch Law & Order with no plans to stay beyond Season 21. Despite this, Season 21 ended without any indication that Anderson wouldn’t be back or that Cosgrove would be in need of a new partner with Bernard gone. It was a finale without any cliffhangers. All of this said, Anderson celebrated the news of Law & Order’s renewal after the good news was announced earlier in May. He took to Instagram with a message that explicitly said that “Detective Kevin Bernard is right back at ya’ with the whole squad,” complete with congratulations to his “fellow castmates” as well as the crew and production team. It has since been deleted from his account, but originally said: And just like that Detective Kevin Bernard is right back at ya' with the whole sqaud! Law & Order nights will continue to be elite. #LawAndOrder, #SVU, and #OrganizedCrime will return for new seasons this fall! Congrats to my fellow castmates , the crew, and production team !!! Whether Anderson simply wasn’t ready to share the news when Law & Order was renewed or it wasn’t until more recently that the decision to depart was finalized, it previously seemed like Bernard was a sure thing for Season 22. There is no sign that he has ruled out returning for a guest appearance, but the matter seems to be settled about him as a regular. He’s also not the only one who only signed a one-year deal for the revival. Sam Waterston, who plays District Attorney Jack McCoy, also signed a deal for a single season of Law & Order, but there has been no announcement at the time of writing regarding whether or not he’ll be back for Season 22. Waterston did appear at the upfront presentation for NBC Universal, which was in promotion of programming for next season. It’s not confirmation that McCoy isn’t going the way of Bernard and bowing out, but the signs seem positive. Of course, McCoy isn’t exactly in the thick of the action on location quite as much as Bernard, and his interactions are primarily with Price and Maroun as ADAs. Anthony Anderson leaving Law & Order means that the investigative half of the series will look very different in Season 22, and viewers will presumably have to see Cosgrove bounce off of a new partner after spending a full season opposite Bernard. Still, if Anderson’s return was with the goal of getting the revival off to a strong start, then the ratings successes and renewal prove that he was part of what made it work. At the time of writing, none of the other series regulars from Season 21 are evidently expected to leave ahead of Season 22. If you want to relive the first revival season with Anthony Anderson as one of two familiar faces, you can find all ten episodes streaming with a Peacock subscription. Source
  11. It came out last October that Vanderpump Rules’ Lala Kent had ended her 3-year-long engagement to her then-fiancé Randall Emmett. Photos had emerged of Emmett seemingly hanging out with other women, leading many to speculate that cheating was the root cause of the split. The Bravo reality star has confirmed as much (and more) regarding her ex. Lately, though, she’s getting real about Emmett’s $10 million lawsuit making headlines and how people were actually looking to her for money when they broke up. Radar Online obtained court documents that showed Randall Emmett, George Furla, and their joint production company were being sued for a whopping $10.8 million in damages by The Fyzz Facility. Emmett and the others involved allegedly failed to pay the company back for a $4 million loan that was intended for a film project called Mexicali with Gerard Butler slated for the lead role. In addition, the suit accuses the defendants of breaking their contract when they used the loan to front a different project with Butler (a film reportedly in post-production called Hair of the Dog) without their agreed-upon permission. Per the outlet, the big-time Hollywood producer – whose credits include Silence and The Irishman – has been facing other legal matters as well. Supposedly, Randall Emmett is being sued by an insurance company over fraud allegations and also for unpaid rent at his office space. When asked about the eight-figure lawsuit over a loan default, though, his ex Lala Kent claimed she knew nothing about it. She said on Jeff Lewis Live, I don’t know the ins and outs of it. I was just sent the headline. I don’t really deep dive into what he’s going through because it really has nothing to do with me. Previously, the Vanderpump Rules alum had shared a lot about the former financial arrangement she had with Randall Emmett. As she told it, she always had her own credit card and bank account throughout their entire five-year relationship, emphasizing that she “never had access to anything he had.” However, Jeff Lewis pressed the star further of late that she might’ve been entangled in the ongoing legal mess if they had gotten married as planned. Kent responded, Oh, trust me. When the relationship ended, I had people call me to collect money. And I said, ‘We weren’t married. You got to collect elsewhere. Sorry.’ Lala Kent continued, explaining to the host exactly how tricky the current dynamic stands with her ex while they hash out custody and child support of their now 1-year-old daughter, Ocean. Apparently, they came to an agreed upon amount for support three months ago. However, according to Kent, Randall Emmett hasn’t paid it and she doesn’t really expect him to. She also alleged that Emmett’s employees at his L.A. mansion came to her “demanding to get paid” after their breakup, saying she only “hopes” that Ocean’s nanny is currently being paid. The 31-year-old has maintained in the past that she knew nothing about Randall Emmett’s supposed extracurricular activities until after they went their separate ways. Nonetheless, her Vanderpump Rules co-star Scheana Shay dropped the bombshell that Kent might’ve had an inkling after all. Vanderpump Rules has been greenlit for a tenth season on Bravo. The main cast hasn’t been confirmed, but Lala Kent has revealed that the reality show likes to “reward” her financially for drama. And judging by all the drama going on in her personal life at the moment, it would seem they’ll keep rewarding her. Fans can catch up on seasons past and what was likely Randall Emmett’s last appearance on the show with Peacock Premium, in the meantime. Source
  12. Spoilers ahead for the series finale of Bull on CBS, called "Goodbye." Unconventional legal drama Bull has officially come to an end after six seasons, which also marks the end of an era with Michael Weatherly as a leading man on CBS after his many years on NCIS. So, now that the show is over and the fates of Jason Bull and the rest are established, did he get a happy ending or not? Well, there was a lot of back-and-forth during "Goodbye," and some fateful decisions had to be made to determine where the show would leave off. So, with Bull done, let's break down the main character's ending. "Goodbye" picked up where last week's penultimate episode left off: after Bull's client Ed Wilson told Bull that he killed a college student years ago, and then killed again more recently to cover it up. It was privileged information, however, and Bull couldn't tell the authorities. Even after he and the TAC tried everything to force a mistrial (since Chester had done such a good job with the defense that Ed was sure to be acquitted), all signs pointed toward Ed walking free. Bull couldn't break privilege without tanking his own career. At the end of the day, however, he decided that justice for the murdered student and getting Ed behind bars was more important than his keeping his courtroom privileges (and job), and he announced to the jury that Ed was guilty. The judge obviously declared a mistrial and gave Bull the boot from being present in any courtroom in New York. Bull was out of a job with no immediate plans to find a new one as of the end of the series finale. He was immediately resigned to his career in trial science being over, even when Marissa tried to convince him that they could fight back. Ultimately, she bought him out of TAC, and Chunk agreed to stay on (even though he wanted Bull's office). Taylor was also leaving the team to go to Hawai'i for her son's sake – which, as Bull pointed out, wasn't the worst place to move to. He ended his series out of work, and his decision to break privilege was such a drastic move that Marissa and Chunk may need to fully denounce his actions if they want TAC to pick up and carry on. All things considered, TAC is in good hands with Bull's longtime right-hand woman (with actress Geneva Carr opening up about working with Weatherly) in charge and Chunk as the lawyer, but what about Bull himself? Was It A Happy Ending? On paper, "Goodbye" seems like it should be a pretty miserable ending for Jason Bull. Sure, he has his family, but he had to give up his company and his job. Considering how much his friendships with the team were forged by their tireless work on cases, those friendships may fade with time. He doesn't have any immediate job prospects, and him breaking privilege might well follow him around for the rest of his professional life. On the whole, though, I would say that Bull got an ending that was more happy than sad. He wasn't heartbroken about having to leave his company and job, and had no regrets that he gave it up to get justice for some victims and prevent Ed from striking again. He's not exactly living hand-to-mouth either, and seemed content with the idea of taking a break for a while. Besides, the show had to come up with a way to go bigger than ever with its series finale, and I would say that this qualified. So, what's next? There's no sign that CBS was trying to set up a Marissa/Chunk spinoff by the changing of the guard at TAC, and "Goodbye" was likely the last time that fans see these characters. The end of Bull(opens in new tab) does open up the possibility of Michael Weatherly returning to his old NCIS stomping grounds as Tony DiNozzo (and the NCIS boss weighed in on the idea), but for now, fans may have to content themselves with a Paramount+ subscription and rewatching the full run of Bull. For some viewing options in the coming days and weeks, be sure to check out our 2022 TV premiere schedule. Source

  15. WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore confirmed Credence Barebone/Aurelius Dumbledore (Ezra Miller) is the new Snape (Alan Rickman) through a very familiar line delivered by Aberforth Dumbledore (Richard Coyle). Fantastic Beasts 3 finally shed light on the Credence being Aurelius Dumbledore plot twist. Indeed, Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) didn't lie, but he was wrong about Aurelius being Albus' brother (and about the Dumbledores abandoning him). In fact, he is Aberforth's long-lost son, and when the two finally reconnect, Aberforth makes Credence's connection to Snape all too clear. Throughout Fantastic Beasts 3, Credence and Aberforth communicate through the latter's magic mirror in Hog's Head Inn. Albus (Jude Law) explains to Newt (Eddie Redmayne) that in 1899, during the same summer that he and Grindelwald formed a relationship, Aberforth fathered a child with a woman from Godric's Hollow. But she was sent away, and the baby was swapped by Leta Lestrange (who was trying to temporarily get rid of her noisy brother Corvus). This is how Aurelius Dumbledore was named Credence and put under the care of tyrannic Mary Lou Barebone. Credence's lack of an identity in Fantastic Beasts tortured him throughout his life, and Grindelwald manipulated him into thinking he was abandoned by his family, using his pain as motivation to kill Albus. At the end of Fantastic Beasts 3, Credence/Aurelius finally learns that Aberforth never meant to abandon him. When he asks his father, "Did you ever think of me?," Aberforth simply replies, "Always." Aberforth's line mirrors Snape's heartbreaking "Always" in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, and this is not a coincidence. Snape's line, which is revealed to Harry and the viewers after his death, stands as a symbol of his love for Lily Potter and of his undying loyalty to the good side. Snape is thus portrayed as the antihero with a tragic past (his unrequited love for Lily) and a noble heart. In Fantastic Beasts 3, Credence even takes on a Snape-like style, wearing long, dark robes, and shoulder-length hair. Tortured by the Obscurus, his adoptive mother, and his feelings of abandonment, Credence is only manipulated into joining the dark side, abandoning Grindelwald as soon as he learns he has a family. But he reunites with Aberforth as he is dying - Aberforth's line comes at a time as tragic as Snape's, showing Credence's good side at a moment too late. When Credence joins Grindelwald, he does so because Grindelwald is the only one who offers him a sense of belonging. This once again reminds one of Snape, who once joined the Death Eaters as he felt betrayed by his friend Lily and unwelcome everywhere else. Voldemort's manipulative discourse appealed to Snape, even though he was a half-blood wizard (ironically, so was Voldemort). But his allegiance soon changes. When Voldemort kills Snape, he doesn't know that Snape has been working as a double agent for Dumbledore. Grindelwald, whose manipulative skills had earned Credence's allegiance in a similar way, does feel Credence's heart is not with him, so he tries to kill him. However, Albus and Aberforth's spells meet Grindelwald's and save his life. Tragically, even though Credence was saved from Grindelwald's Avada Kedavra, he is dying because of his Obscurus (having survived so long only because of the powerful magic within him). His last scene in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore shows him leaving with Aberforth, finally at peace with himself and the Dumbledore family. It remains to be seen how long he will be able to survive the Obscurus' curse and if the Dumbledore brothers will find a way to prolong his life. However, if he is to mirror Snape's story to the end, it's highly unlikely Credence will outlive his curse and tragedy. Source
  16. Sam Raimi, director of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has revealed his favorite character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it’s not the titular Master of the Mystic Arts. The sequel to Doctor Strange is fast approaching its May 6 release date and is set to potentially mark a groundbreaking shift in the MCU. The story will see Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange on a journey that crosses the boundaries of the multiverse. He'll be joined by old mystical allies such as Wong (Benedict Wong) and the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), as well as new ones like the dimension-hopping America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez). Raimi took the reins as director of the project after the director of the first film, Scott Derrickson, left due to creative differences with Marvel Studios. While Raimi had not directed a feature since 2013, many were delighted with the legendary genre filmmaker’s return, mostly due to his seminal work on the original Spider-Man trilogy. That series, starring Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, is often credited with laying the groundwork for the comic book movie boom that audiences enjoy today and was vindicated as such when Maguire returned to the role for another multiverse-spanning incident in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now, in an interview with Moviepilot, Raimi reveals which character in the MCU is his personal favorite and it’s not the star of his upcoming movie. The director was asked a question submitted by a fan who wanted to know which hero who has been part of the expansive cinematic experiment was his personal favorite. While Raimi has been steeped in the world of Doctor Strange for several years now, his answer was Spider-Man. Raimi gave a detailed reason for his choice in the quote below: “I think that Spider-Man has always been my favorite MCU character. Mostly because of the reason that everyone else loves him; he’s identifiable as a human being. He’s got problems, he’s got bad skin, he’s gotta do his homework, he doesn’t have enough money and yet he struggles to do the right thing. He puts everything he’s got; he sacrifices everything to do the right thing and is really somebody you can identify with and look up to. It embodies the thing I love about a great superhero movie which is, 'I could do that, a little part of that could be me.' And if they tell the story right, you leave the theatre saying, 'It will be me.' It seems that Raimi is still loyal to the character he has loved for decades and who brought him huge recognition in the 2000s. The director’s answer encapsulates what many fans cite as their reason for loving the character since his inception in 1962, that being his inherent relatability via personal struggles on top of his extraordinary life as a superhero. Indeed, Raimi’s description is that of the general appeal of Spider-Man and it is worth noting that, while this answer may imply he is speaking about Tom Holland’s web-slinger, Raimi does not mention Holland by name. Considering the director admitted he was something of a novice to the MCU, having only seen 4 films from the series prior to signing on to Doctor Strange 2, it’s possible Raimi may be approaching this question from a more overall perspective of Marvel movies. While fans are yet to see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there is already demand for Raimi to do more work in the MCU if he wishes. With Maguire’s recent return, and even a rumored cameo in Doctor Strange 2, the possibility of an official Spider-Man 4 has never been so real. Regardless, this answer is a charming display of Raimi’s love for Spider-Man and his understanding of the character that made his initial Marvel cinematic debut such a rousing success. Source
  17. YouTube channel YourMovieSucksDOTOrg has suggested that the 2019 reboot of The Lion King reused James Earl Jones's dialogue from the original 1994 film, despite the director saying otherwise. Jones reprised the role of Mufasa for the 2019 remake of the classic 1994 animated feature. The remake was directed by Jon Favreau and starred Donald Glover, Beyoncé, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Billy Eichner, and Seth Rogen alongside Jones. Following remakes of other Disney animated classics like Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast, 2019's The Lion King aimed to reimagine the beloved 1994 film in a more grounded, realistic style. Rather than depicting its Pride Lands in a cartoonish, animated style, Favreau's take on the Disney Renaissance classic reimagined the characters of Simba (Glover), Nala (Beyoncé), Timone (Eichner), Pumba (Rogen), and Scar (Ejiofor) with more realistic designs. Despite earning an impressive box office gross, the film was contentious among critics, though The Walt Disney Company is still going forward with a prequel helmed by Barry Jenkins. The Moonlight director's prequel will focus on the younger Mufasa and Scar, but one YouTuber has noticed something peculiar about the 2019 film's portrayal of Mufasa. Posted on his secondary YMS Clips YouTube channel, YourMovieSucksDOTOrg shared a segment from his recent review of the 2019 remake in which he pointed out something interesting about the film's dialogue. In the video, the YouTuber compared the scene in which Mufasa tries to rescue Simba from the Wildebeast stampede to its 1994 counterpart. The YouTuber then cuts to a promotional interview from the film's release, in which Favreau discussed whether he reused older takes in the remake, saying he only used a small sample. The video then cuts back to further comparisons between each film's Mufasa dialogue that seems to confirm the audio was reused. Check out YourMovieSucksDOTOrg's comparison below. The video contains graphic language. While 2019's The Lion King became one of the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time, a number of voices aired their criticisms of the film. Music icon Elton John, who helped compose the original film's music alongside lyricist Tim Rice and composer Hans Zimmer, revealed that he found himself disappointed with how the remake handled its soundtrack. In an interview promoting his memoir, John stated he felt that the movie's soundtrack didn't have the same grasp on audiences that the original film had, admitting that he'd wished that he had involvement in creating the 2019 film's score alongside Zimmer and Pharrell Williams. Though The Lion King had already received criticism for its reimagining, YourMovieSucksDOTOrg's video is sure to make many more raise their eyebrows at the remake. While Favreau revealed that he used a small sample of the score to help amplify a scream, Jones's delivery sounds closer to his original performance, rather than his more recent performances as seen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. With Jenkins teasing the prequel film's story and Aaron Pierre picking up the role of Mufasa from Jones, perhaps the film's follow-up may address the critiques of 2019's The Lion King and stand apart from its 1994 inspirations. 18. Adam Sandler has officially confirmed his reunion with Uncut Gems directors Josh and Benny Safdie (collectively known as the Safdie brothers) on a new film project. Sandler made a name for himself starring in comedies during the '90s and more recently in his straight-to-streaming productions, but his role as the gambling-addicted NYC jeweler Howard Ratner in Uncut Gems proved the actor had the chops to take more dramatic roles. The 2019 crime-thriller was a massive success with critics, and despite being snubbed at the Oscars, Sandler and the Safdie brothers still managed to pick up Independent Spirit Awards for Best Male Lead and Best Director respectively. Rumors were already swirling earlier in April that Sandler was teaming up with the Safdies again to make a new movie that so far has kept all plot and production details under wraps. Sandler himself confirmed exclusively to EW that the rumors were true that he was working on a new movie with the Safdies, but he kept tight-lipped on any further details. What he did do was praise the work ethic of the Safdie brothers, who he claims have been hard at work writing and thinking of new ideas since the success of Uncut Gems. He continued on to give the diplomatic answer that he didn't know what specific details he was allowed to say, but that the new project was "different" and "gonna be very exciting." Read Sandler's full comment below: [The Safdie Brothers are] working hard on it. Their work ethic is bananas. They're always working, always writing, always thinking. I don't know what I can tell you, but it's gonna be very exciting. It's different. But I don't want them to ever say, 'What the hell did you tell him that for?' So I'll just let them talk [about it]. Sandler's upcoming basketball drama Hustle and science-fiction drama Spaceman for Netflix already have the actor on the road to being taken more seriously by the film industry that has largely panned his recent comedies for the streamer. Without any plot details revealed it's hard to speculate what the Safdies have cooked up, but based on their most recent feature films, Good Time and Uncut Gems, it's likely their new film will follow suit with a thrilling tone and high production quality. It's still unknown if they'll also team up with A24 again as the distributor took on their previous two films, but with their recent successes, they probably don't need to worry too much. Hopefully, as time passes, Sandler or the Safdie Brothers will reveal more details about the film and will clue audiences in to whether or not they can expect another Uncut Gems level performance from the one and only Adam Sandler. 19. Donnie Dunagan is the voice behind Bambi, one of Disney’s most iconic films, but he is revealing that the beloved movie was once spurred an onslaught of hateful letters. The spotted young fawn and his forest friends are among some of Disney’s most recognizable characters, even more than half a century after Bambi hit theaters. The film was one of Disney’s earliest animated movies, but its groundbreaking ideology and artistic style helped to solidify the film’s status in cinematic history. The playful innocence of the characters offered a welcome reprieve for Bambi's original audiences. Released in 1942, America was slowly recovering from the devastating impact of The Great Depression, and fears grew concerning the growing war in Europe. Walt Disney was even forced to delay Bambi's theatrical debut due to the attacks on Pearl Harbor. All the while, outbreaks of massive wildfires ravaged large portions of land across America. The catastrophes inspired Walt to take the initiative in bringing awareness to the issues. Following the success of Bambi, Disney addressed the US Forest Service and offered the character to be used as a conservation icon, focusing on preventing forest fires and preserving nature. An agreement was struck between the two entities, but it did not last long. Son of Frankenstein actor and the voice of young Bambi, Donnie Dunagan, recently spoke at Dallas Comic Show. Dunagan divulged that Disney received great backlash for offering use of his character. Read below to see how threats caused Disney to cancel the agreement. “…Bambi was the first film that focused on saving the environment. You remember the fire scene started by the careless person? Disney offered Forest Services Bambi to use as an icon. They bought it; that was actually in the papers. Then, he started getting hate mail. I don’t know if it was from some angry hunter whose little girl said, “Daddy, you can’t kill Bambi!” or someone else. I heard Walt went to Forest Services and said, “We can’t do that one.” I think he had the original idea to use another animal as an icon for Forest Services, a bear.” Dunagan was not specific about what types of threats or condemnation were contained in the letters to Disney, but it is evident that he did not want his character or movie marred by its association with the US Forest Service. Disney's partnership with the government agency was short-lived, only lasting a year before it was pulled. In 1944, almost immediately following Bambi's removal from ads, the iconic deer was replaced by the Forest Service's current mascot, Smokey the Bear. Bambi vividly portrays the causes and dangers of forest fires, and there is also evidence that poachers shot Bambi's mother since the events unfold in the spring, outside of deer season. Because of this, it makes sense that Bambi would be the face of conservation efforts. However, due to the psychological impact the movie has, especially on young viewers, one could see how hunters may feel vilified. Even so, if Dunagan's memory is correct, Disney still found a way to leave a lasting ecological impact without having to sacrifice the perception of his work in the process. Source
  20. Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts has exited Marvel's Fantastic Four movie. When Walt Disney Studios acquired 20th Century Fox several years ago, it soon became clear that the Marvel Cinematic Universe would reboot Marvel's First Family. A Fantastic Four movie set in the MCU was officially announced before too long. While Marvel Studios has yet to cast anyone to play Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, or Ben Grimm/The Thing, it was previously announced that Jon Watts was sticking with the MCU to direct Fantastic Four after completing the Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland. In the time since Watts joined Fantastic Four, he's become an even more in-demand director in Hollywood. He began developing a hitman movie starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney in 2021, but the real big development came once Spider-Man: No Way Home hit theaters. The movie broke box office records right from the start and further illustrated that Marvel Studios had a steady hand at the helm of Fantastic Four. Jon Watts' involvement even led to speculation that Tom Holland's Spider-Man could appear. In a surprising move, Deadline has revealed that Jon Watts is no longer directing Fantastic Four. Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige confirmed the news of his departure to the outlet. Jon Watts' Fantastic Four exit is amicable, though, as the director is said to be ready to take a break from superhero movies after directing an entire Spider-Man trilogy since production on Spider-Man: Homecoming began in 2016. Statements from Kevin Feige and Jon Watts can be read below: Feige: Collaborating with Jon on the Spider-Man films has been a true pleasure. We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU but understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at some point down the road. Watts: Making three Spider-Man films was an incredible and life changing experience for me. I’m eternally grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. I’m hopeful we’ll work together again and I can’t wait to see the amazing vision for Fantastic Four brought to life. The announcement that Jon Watts is no longer directing MCU's Fantastic Four movie will certainly come as a surprise to many. Thanks to his work on the Spider-Man trilogy, he proved his ability to direct major blockbusters with big casts and work within the MCU. It also was clear that he had a great working relationship with the Marvel Studios team. While he might not be directing Fantastic Four anymore, it seems that his days working in the MCU might not be totally done. Deadline's report notes that Sony wants him to return for the next Tom Holland-led Spider-Man movie, and Feige's statement is optimistic that they'll work with Watts again at some point. Now that Fantastic Four has lost Jon Watts, though, the project is now left in an uncertain state and in need of a new director. This is sure to be one of the biggest open jobs in Hollywood now, as the chance to reintroduce the Fantastic Four on the big screen should be quite enticing for a variety of creators. Marvel veterans like Peyton Reed or Jon Favreau could get a shot if they're interested, while other known and up-and-coming directors could get their first crack at a superhero movie now. Since Fantastic Four isn't expected to begin filming until sometime in 2023, Marvel Studios has some time to find Watts' replacement. Source
  21. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom may introduce a vital element to the character's supporting circle as the film is rumored to feature the child of Aquaman and Mera. The first Aquaman was a surprise hit for Warner Bros. as it grossed $1 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing DC film of all time. The sequel is set for release on March 17, 2023. Aquaman has a large supporting cast in the comics. While some like Mera and Vulko were featured in the 2018 film, characters like Aqualad and Tula were not. One important character is Arthur Curry Jr., aka Aquababy, who is the son of Aquaman and Mera in the comics. Before Batman and Superman received sons in the comics, Aquaman was one of the first DC superheroes to have a child, as Aqaubaby was introduced in Aquaman #23 in 1965. In 2020 as part of the Future State initiative, DC recently introduced Aquaman and Mera's daughter, Princess Andrina 'Andy' Curry, who goes by the name Aquawoman. According to The Direct, it appears a child may be coming to the throne of Atlantis. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom may feature the son of Aquaman and Mera. No other details have been confirmed, but the site says the child will be a major part of the film. The wording of son does mean the character will be Arthur Curry Jr. and not Adrina Curry, which makes a certain amount of sense as the film was written before the character debuted. This news should be taken with a grain of salt however since Warner Bros. has not confirmed the report. In the comics, Aquababy meets a tragic ending when the young boy is killed by Black Manta. While it is highly unlikely that the DCEU will adapt the storyline directly, as killing a child would easily be the darkest thing in the DCEU, the film will likely draw elements from the storyline. Given that Black Manta is the primary villain of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and that the film will see Arthur Curry team up with his brother Orm, it is likely the storyline will involve going to save Arthur's son and Orm's nephew. Black Manta blames Aquaman for the death of his father, so threatening the King of Atlantis' child is a way to get back at the hero. The addition to Aquaman also raises some questions about Mera's involvement in the story, namely actress Amber Heard. Heard has generated headlines over the past few years regarding her very public lawsuit with ex-husband Johnny Depp. Warner Bros. reportedly almost didn't bring Heard back for the sequel but did due to chemistry with star Jason Momoa. While the actress remains involved in the film, the lack of news on her character, who was such a major part of the first film, does not bode well, especially if her character is set to have a child. This could indicate that she is absent for the main action of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom because she will be serving a B plot, or in place of killing Aquababy, it is Mera who will die in the sequel leaving Arthur to save his son and raise him as a solo father.
