  1. A Snowpiercer timeline shows the difference between the movie and the television series. First published in 1989, the French graphic novel series, Le Transperceneige, by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette was first adapted into a feature film by the Academy Award-winning director, Bong Joon-ho. In the wake of Snowpiercer's release in 2013, the graphic novel saw a spike in international popularity, and Titan Comics released an English translation the following year, which consisted of two volumes: The Escape and The Explorers (which also includes The Crossing). A third volume, Terminus, was released in 2016, followed by a prequel trilogy in 2019. Based in part on the 2013 film and the graphic novel, a Snowpiercer series debuted on TNT in May of 2020, which acts a reboot of film's continuity. Bong's version is set 15 years after humanity's attempt to stop global warming via stratospheric aerosol injection catastrophically, which backfires and creates a new ice age. The series winds the clocks back to just seven years after the world becomes a frozen wasteland, and the remnants of humanity seek refuge on the titular self-sustaining circumnavigational train run by the eccentric billionaire, Mr. Wilford. Now, Titan Comics has released an official Snowpiercer timeline to help fans understand the subtle differences between the graphic novels, Bong's film, and the TV series. The timeline places the graphic novel's prequel and original trilogies on the bottom with the TV show and movie in their corresponding places above, along with an indication of when the extinction event occurred. Check out the timeline below: This timeline is the perfect guide for Snowpiercer fans who have only seen the movie and/or the TV show and are interested in diving into the original graphic novels, but are not sure where to begin. It is also helpful for those who want to start reading from the beginning and need some clarification regarding where the two adaptations fall on the overall timeline in relation to the source material. For instance, the Snowpiercer series picks up somewhere between the third prequel, Annihilation, and The Escape, while the movie is set near the beginning of The Explorers. Despite these differences in the timeline, both adaptations feature a similar premise and explore the same themes, such as class warfare, social injustice, and the politics of survival. In both versions, the Snowpiercer's population is rigidly segregated by class, with the elite living in the lavish front cars while the impoverished are forced to live in the back in squalor. This, of course, all stems from the original Snowpiercer comics. Source
  2. New poster art for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom gives fans a glimpse of Jason Momoa with blonde hair and a new costume in the upcoming DC blockbuster. Momoa, who first made his acting debut on Baywatch: Hawaii, made his first cameo appearance as Arthur Curry, a.k.a. Aquaman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before moving on to appearing in a much greater capacity in 2017’s Justice League. In a significant departure from Aquaman’s appearance in the original comics, director Zack Snyder developed Momoa’s distinctive superhero look to include Polynesian-like tattoos which mimicked the character’s usual scale-like attire. However, when The Conjuring director James Wan was brought on board to helm Momoa’s solo film as the King of Atlantis, he was able to introduce a more traditional look for the character who is often depicted in an orange and green suit. In the final act of 2018’s Aquaman, when Arthur claimed the trident of Atlan, the former king of Atlantis, he also took possession of the former monarch’s armor as well. While this armor muted the character’s traditionally flamboyant colors somewhat, it was still a much more comic-accurate version of Aquaman’s attire than that which appeared in Snyder’s films. Now, a new piece of poster art, released by DC on the Weibo social media platform in honor of the recent Chinese Lunar New Year, shows Momoa’s Aquaman sporting yet another new look. Wearing the new blue costume first teased in footage revealed at last year’s DC Fandome, most strikingly, Momoa’s hair and beard also now appears to be blonde. Check out the new poster below: While many fans of the original comics may be excited at the possibility this new art hints at for Momoa’s continued transformation into a more comic-accurate version of the character, previous behind-the-scenes footage seem to indicate that Momoa will most likely not be sporting a new blonde haircut in the sequel. Of course, Wan and Momoa may still be planning to surprise audiences with a shocking bleach job at some point in the film. While it seems unlikely this would look good on screen, fans will agree that the first film was already successful in transforming perhaps one of DC’s most garish superhero costumes into something decidedly badass. So, perhaps the idea of a blonde Momoa is not quite so far-fetched after all. Of course, Momoa is not the only Aquaman character destined to get a makeover in the upcoming sequel. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta has also been revealed to be getting a more comic-accurate version of his costume, complete with a redesigned helmet. As for whether Momoa goes blonde or not, fans will still have Arthur’s new armor to look forward to when Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hits theaters in December. Source
  3. Actor Mark Wahlberg has said that a follow up to The Fighter is the sequel that he most wants to make. The 2010 David O. Russell film found instant success upon its release, bringing in substantial critical acclaim and eventually taking home two Oscars. It marked the start of a particularly impressive creative period for Russell, whose next two films, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, brought him considerable acclaim as a filmmaker. Based on the true story of boxer Micky Ward (Wahlberg), The Fighter showcases the character’s struggle to be considered a legitimate boxing talent, all while dealing with the difficulties imposed upon him by his brother, Dicky (Christian Bale). Dicky’s claim to fame is that he once had a title shot with boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, but years on from this career high, he has been deeply side-lined by drug addiction. As Dicky’s desire to make up for his past shortcomings manifest themselves in trying to coach Micky to boxing stardom, things become more complicated and problematic for the dedicated young fighter. Eventually, Micky does win the welterweight title, but the film does not focus on what many boxing fans consider to be the real highlight of his career: a trilogy of fights against Arturo Gatti. In a recent exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Wahlberg revealed that the film he’s done that he would most like to return to for a sequel is The Fighter. Explaining how the fights between Ward and Gatti serve as a perfect set up for a trilogy of films, Wahlberg acknowledged that at age 50, he’s probably “aging out” of the possibility to star as Ward in two more films, but nonetheless, it remains a project he’s keen to continue exploring. As Wahlberg stated after being asked about which sequel he’s most interested in making: The Fighter, but I'm now probably aging out of that. But you always felt like you couldn't make a movie about Mickey Ward without showing the Arturo Gatti Trilogy, which were some of the greatest fights. One of them was Fight of the Century. So that would have been nice. I am going to get to make a Spencer Confidential sequel. I love that character, people really love that character, and he's kind of now moving into different adventures. You know, It just depends. I was never really in the sequel business. But The Fighter really lent itself for another movie because of Micky and Arturo Gotti's trilogy. I'm always kind of looking for the next thing. But if the audience really wants it, and they really love it, and we can make one better than the first then I'd be willing to do it again, for sure. Having produced The Fighter as well as starring in it, Wahlberg is in a position to potentially make a sequel happen. Given the success of the first film and how positive the audience reaction was to the character of Ward, there’s every reason to believe that a sequel would be something that could stand a strong chance of recapturing The Fighter’s original magic. Whether or not Russell would return for any follow-ups to his 2010 film is hard to say, however. His latest (presently untitled) film is set for release this year and boasts a star-studded cast, complete with the likes of Bale, Margot Robbie, Robert De Niro, Rami Malek, Taylor Swift, Chris Rock, and Mike Myers. While the idea of The Fighter 2 is sure to appeal to many fans of the original film, a sequel would have to be about more than just a boxing match to hit the same mark as the first film. Russell was able to imbue The Fighter with a genuine sense of humanity, and it was that emotional impact that truly won audiences over, safeguarding it from being just another boxing film. There’s no doubt that the story of Ward’s trilogy of fights with Gatti is engaging, but a sequel will require strong direction to keep it on the same level as the original. Source
  4. Warner Bros. Thailand has revealed a life-sized Robert Pattinson statue as part of their The Batman display. The caped crusader is on his way back to the big screen with Matt Reeves' upcoming reboot starring Pattinson as the titular hero. Even though it follows a young Bruce Wayne, The Batman is skipping the origin story by focusing on the hero's second year being Gotham City's violent protector. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Warner Bros. was forced to push back its release date several times as The Batman was originally set to come out in June 2021. However, the delay has not managed to kill any anticipation for the upcoming DC film, especially on social media. Like most superhero movies, The Batman marketing has been non-stop, especially as the film is less than a month away from its release. However, when it comes to The Batman's viral marketing, Warner Bros. has stepped up their PR game. Outside of releasing multiple trailers, WB has also implemented mysteries like The Riddler's chilling website where fans got the chance to solve a number of Edward Nashton's riddles. There have also been posters that have included cryptic messages from Paul Dano's Zodiac-inspired villain, to help sell the idea that The Batman will be a new experience for long-time fans of the DC hero. As The Batman is close to arriving in theaters worldwide, more marketing pieces have been unveiled, this time in Thailand. Through Warner Bros. Thailand's official social media pages, an actual life-sized statue of Pattinson's Batman was revealed as part of their massive display. A video clip, which can be viewed here, also shows the statue spinning around as it captures the attention of citizens driving by. Check out the photos of Pattinson's statue below from several angles: While it may not be on many people's minds, this is one of the more enjoyable experiences leading up to major superhero films. Whether it is DC or Marvel, these comic book IPs have massive followings across the world, which means that each country does different things to celebrate the arrival of a new comic book movie at the theaters. When it comes to Batman, past franchises have usually brought the Bat-Signal out to various cities or displayed the Batmobile out on the streets. For Pattinson, it's probably a surreal feeling to see his version of such an iconic character, whether it be through actions figures, Funko Pop!, or in this case, a life-sized statue in Thailand. The wait for The Batman has been a long one, but it's looking more and more like it will be worth it. Despite Batman being one of the heroes to be reinterpreted the most, it has become evident that Reeves is truly making this franchise as different as possible. From the way that he is handling The Riddler, who is being depicted as Gotham City's own Zodiac killer, to the film having a heavy noir-detective tone, it doesn't feel repetitive from the many Batman movies and TV shows that have come before. As The Batman arrives in theaters next month, the world will soon get to witness Reeves' new universe in its entirety. Source
  5. The official IMAX poster for The Batman offers a gritty look at the DC film's entire cast of characters. DC movies always elicit excitement, but Matt Reeves' The Batman has to be one of the most anticipated films to emerge from the superhero franchise in a very long time. The updated take on the iconic hero is set in a separate universe from the DCEU and stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. When The Batman picks up, he will be in his second year as Gotham's famed vigilante, and it won't be long before he faces his most difficult challenge yet. That comes in the form of the Riddler (Paul Dano). This version of the villain is a masked serial killer who has been preying on Gotham's elite and toying with the Batman as he does so. To get to the bottom of the Riddler's nefarious schemes, Bruce will align himself with both Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) and Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), who appears to be straddling the line between ally and enemy. The Batman also includes some other familiar DC characters, most notably the Penguin (Colin Farrell) and Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis). Every single one of those characters are featured on The Batman's official IMAX poster, which was released just a month before the movie's debut. The horizontal sheet offers multiple peeks at those like Bruce, the Riddler, and Catwoman, while an outline of a bat with a question mark in the center looms over them all. The Batman has mounted a creative marketing campaign that includes riddle-filled websites and posters with hidden messages. It all speaks to the overall mystery that hangs over The Batman, which, at the moment, revolves around the Riddler and his grand plan. Reeves has been open about his desire to dig into Bruce's skills as a detective, and the overall aesthetic of the film feels very reminiscent of gritty crime dramas like Seven. All told, The Batman is very unlike a typical superhero movie, and that's what makes it so exciting. As the IMAX poster highlights, The Batman has a wide cast of characters to introduce. Some, like Gordon and the Penguin, are already destined for spin-offs of their own, but others like the Riddler and Catwoman have the potential to be secondary leads in Bruce's story. Reeves and DC have been far from quiet about their aspirations for a larger Batman universe, and this film is only just the beginning. Audiences will get to see all the above characters in action when The Batman arrives in March. Source

  7. Alestorm have just released a performance video for their song “Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship,” including footage from their 2021 UK/Ireland tour and behind the scenes footage. The band is currently recording their seventh studio album, “Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum. Described as Pirate Metal, Alestorm showcased their energetic and engaged fanbase throughout their tour with their hit song “Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship” in the background. The band members – vocalist Christopher Bowes, bassist Gareth Murdock, drummist Peter Alcorn, guitarist Mate Bodor, and keyboardist Elliot Vernon – were also shown laughing and messing around backstage. In a statement, Alestorm, whose sound is described as having folk, power, and heavy metal influences, commended their fans for sticking with them through their tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland. “Back in December, we managed to defy all the odds and do a massive tour of the United Kingdom and Ireland, playing 11 huge shows to tens of thousands of fans, culminating in our biggest ever headline show at the Brixton Academy in London,” they said. While we were on the road, we also filmed a bunch of footage on and off the stage, so we thought we’d stick it all together into a big fun music video featuring one of our favorite songs from our previous album, called “Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship”. Thanks to everyone who came to see us during these tough times, and extra special thanks to Loretta Lovely, who performed the female vocal parts ‘live’ on stage with us. OH WOW!” Alestorm has topped countless album charts, having landed in the top spot on the US Top New Artist Albums and Current Hard Music Albums charts, and in the Top 10 of the official Scottish and Swiss album charts. 8. There’s adolescent memories that swirl around Grammy-nominated Beth Hart’s influence behind covering Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog.” From her young years of hearing the song waft into her living room from her neighbor across the street, she knew there was something special there. Fast forward to the present and Hart is now signed under the same label that introduced the hardcore rock band, Atlantic Records. So with her cover of “Black Dog” fans can expect the passion every tribute is backed by. The cover anchors and opens her upcoming album release A Tribute To Led Zeppelin out February 25. Hart sings her soul out in her “Black Dog” tribute, beginning with the classic guitar cadence intermediated by “Hey mama said the way you move, gonna make you sweat gonna make you move.” Hart follows this same rhythm in her own boisterous way and even keeps the massive electric guitar solo that follows. The original version is no doubt a “masculine” feel to the cover, but the cover excludes the subdued “woo hoo’s” that accompany the original’s guitar solo. Hart brings the same invigorating energy the original brings as she stands in its essence, unwavering from the initial sound too much. Her voice, with a higher pitch, pairs well with chords that make you bob your head. It’s a refreshing twist to the classic Zeppelin favorite. American singer-songwriter, Beth Hart announced her tribute album to Led Zeppelin around the fall of last year, according to mxdwn, at what point she also debuted her first cover of Zeppelin’s 1969 classic “Good Times Bad Times.” Source
  9. Janet Jackson revealed that she advised Justin Timberlake to remain silent about the infamous wardrobe malfunction incident at the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show in “Part 4” of her new Lifetime documentary series Janet Jackson. She said that Timberlake reached out to perform with her once again at his 2018 Super Bowl halftime show. The documentary showed Jackson’s sister Rebbie remembering Jackson crying after her performance, alongside her brother Tito stating that the malfunction was not premeditated. As a result, Jackson was disinvited from the Grammys, while Timberlake earned five nominations and performed at the Grammys. Janet Jackson tells the untold story of the youngest sibling of the Jackson family. It covers everything from her short marriage to James DeBarge, to rumors of her secret baby, and features interviews with her relatives and colleagues. In the episode of her Lifetime series, Jackson remembers telling Timberlake, “I don’t want any drama for you. They’re aiming this at me. If I was you I wouldn’t say anything.” Source
  10. Kae Tempest announced their upcoming new shows in Brooklyn, Boston, and Washington D.C. for their new album The Line is a Curve, which is set to release on April 8. Tickets will go on sale Friday, February 4 at 10 a.m. on http://www.kaetempest.co.uk/live/. Their tour dates will take place on March 22, March 23, and March 24 in Washington D.D., Boston, and Brooklyn, respectively. Tempest previously toured around the U.S., U.K., and Europe for The Book of Traps & Lessons, and found inspiration for The Line Is A Curve. Their latest album features the contributions of Kevin Abstract, Lianne La Havas, Grian Chatten, ássia, and Confucius MC. Temptest describes The Line Is A Curve as an album of growth. “‘The Line Is A Curve’ is about letting go. Of shame, anxiety, isolation and falling instead into surrender,” they said. Embracing the cyclical nature of time, growth, love. This letting go can hopefully be felt across the record.” Their new music video for their single “More Pressure” was released earlier this month. 11. Portugal the Man announce their first single “ What, Me Worry?” off of their anticipated upcoming album due this June. Fans have a unique incentive to listen to the new single, with those who pre-save “What, Me Worry?” to be gifted PTM coin, the band’s very own community-built social token. The single is yet to release but ahead of its drop date, the band is experimenting with a social token campaign to reward proactive fans with 1 $PTM of PTM coin. To be a part, they simply need to register an account free on Rally, a platform where music artists and their fanbase create shared and digital goods and services. This may mark the first time a major label band has launched a new release with a social token, similar to the non-fungible tokens and cryptocurrency rewards buzzing amongst younger audiences today– perhaps an on-brand marketing idea with releasing “this is fine” in the form of 1 million NFTs December 2021 alongside deadmau5, according to mxdwn. PTM Coin has many exclusive perks and experiences, including access to concert pre-sale codes, events hosted by the band, and hundreds of live show recordings, B-sides, and demos stored in the PTM Archives, as well as potential shared value created by the PTM economy. Additional opportunities will become available for coin holders. The single is produced by Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Harry Styles, Beyoncé) and will come from their 9th studio album to date. Source
  12. A film adaptation of Stephen King's The Boogeyman has cast Yellowjackets star, Sophie Thatcher. Thatcher became known for her role as young Natalie in Showtime's Yellowjackets, which premiered in November 2021. The drama series combines the horror and thriller genres as it follows a high school girls soccer team after a plane crash leads to cannibalism, and it quickly boosted its younger stars into the spotlight with Thatcher among them. After her success in Yellowjackets, Thatcher also appeared as Drash in The Book of Boba Fett, a leader of the group of cyborgs who work for Boba Fett. Now, it seems Thatcher will need to draw on some of her Yellowjackets horror experience for her next role. Deadline reports that Thatcher is set to star alongside Chris Messina in a film adaptation of Stephen King's short story, The Boogeyman. The Boogeyman is being produced by 21 Laps, the production company best known for Stranger Things, and is being directed by Rob Savage. Although the film was originally developed for Fox, it is now set to be released on Hulu. Production on The Boogeyman is reported to begin next month. 21 Laps' The Boogeyman will be the third adaptation of Stephen King's short story about a father recalling for his psychiatrist how a sadistic presence killed his children while he was grieving over his lost wife. The story was originally published in a collection of 20 short stories called The Night Shift, ten of which have been adapted as movies. Although film audiences may be familiar with the King of Horror's work by now, it should be interesting to see what new voice Thatcher and the rest of the cast can bring to this newest adaptation. 13. A newly released deepfake trailer shows Barrack Obama, Miley Cyrus, and Ian McKellan joining forces for a heist that goes terribly wrong. In recent years, deepfake technology has gone to a wide variety of strange and at times outright creepy places, providing viewers with the opportunity to see what some of their favorite films would look like had they been cast differently and even affording career opportunities for deepfake artists who gain viral fame. At present, the technology has largely been used online by a handful of fans of franchises, such as Star Wars and Back to the Future, who have applied it to entertain other fans. But this certainly isn’t the sole use for deepfakes, and to date, it has been used to some degree in TV commercials, with performance capture (the basis of deepfake technology) used in major films such as The Irishman and Rogue One to either turn back the clock of aging, or, in the case of the latter film, to bring back an actor who had passed away. Perhaps what is most engaging (and admittedly somewhat frightening) about performance capture is that it holds the potential to completely create a performance out of thin air, without the need for actual human actors to stand on location or on a set delivering their lines. The latest venture into the bizarre world of deepfakery comes courtesy of actor, writer and comedian Katia Kvinge’s Instagram account. The trailer (which Kvinge refers to as a pilot on her account) starts off simple enough with actors playing the roles of armed thieves preparing for a heist of some sort. But things quickly go off the rails as the three stars transform into Miley Cyrus, Barrack Obama and Ian McKellan before viewers' eyes. What follows next needs to be seen to be believed before the entire production segues into a highly peculiar trailer for an Olivia Coleman film called My Favourite Places to Sit. Check it out in its entirety below: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CZXCAOfqnDG/?utm_source=ig_embed The trailers were apparently made all the way back in 2019, but were only just released on Kvinge’s Instagram account recently. There is definitely a lot going on in the production, and as is to be expected with this sort of performance capture, it’s something that takes viewers into the possibilities of deepfake technology in a way that few could have anticipated. Again, this is one of the most exciting prospects of the technology – the ability to pull off strange new pairings of stars in even stranger scenarios. In that sense, it opens whole new creative worlds, which are really only limited by legal barriers – the likes of which are wisely safeguarded against via disclaimer at the start of the above video. On the more practical side of things, there’s a big difference between making brief trailers and distributing them via social media and utilizing performance capture for something much more meaningful or larger in scale. But perhaps being able to experiment like this is exactly what the entertainment industry needs at this point. A common complaint from film audiences is that creativity is in short supply in many modern productions. Videos like Kvinge’s will likely never result in a heist film that stars Obama, Cyrus and McKellan, but the sheer insanity of it ultimately has the power to inspire creatives to think, "What if?" 14. A Spider-Man: No Way Home costume designer has revealed that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spidey suits had to be recreated from scratch. The third instalment in Marvel Studios Spider-Man series delighted hardcore fans and general audiences the world over in December of last year. No Way Home was a knockout success both critically and financially, currently ranking as the sixth highest-grossing film of all time after blockbuster movies made a cautious return during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The film’s marketing promised to bring elements from prior Spider-Man film series, such as Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock, Willem Dafoe's Green Golbin, and Jamie Foxx’s Electro, into the MCU to menace the latest incarnation of the web-slinger. This led to rampant fan speculation that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker would ultimately team up with his predecessors, Maguire and Garfield. The marketing for Spider-Man: No Way Home exercised a lot of restraint, not giving a clear answer until the film’s release when audiences were overjoyed to witness all three Spider-Men swinging through the sky together to foil a group of interdimensional adversaries. In an interview with Discussing Film, Spider-Man: No Way Home costume designer Sanja Milkovic Hays confirmed that Maguire and Garfield’s Spidey suits has to be completely recreated for their long-awaited return. Hays acknowledged that, in order to create the feeling that the two Spider-Men has stepped out of their own worlds, special care had to be taken to make sure their suits looked identical to their last appearances on the big screen. While using the suits from filming would have guaranteed that effect, Hays confirmed that the original Spider-Man suits the actors wore were either missing or destroyed. "We were recreating the original suits from the previous movies so that the characters looked like they just stepped out of those worlds. The original suits that they actually wore [on-set] are either missing or destroyed. It was really interesting to recreate them because technology has changed so much since they were first designed." While fans may find it unfortunate that the costumes used in the earlier Spider-Man films had not been preserved, it is to be expected that they would not have survived for up to 17 years (in Maguire's case). Certain superhero costumes, such as the Spider-Man suit, do not have longevity as a major factor in their design, with the materials used prone to degradation as time goes on. This is why, on blockbuster affairs, dozens of costumes and stunt suits can be produced, as the demands of an intensive filming schedule will inevitably lead to wear and tear. Regardless, most fans would agree that Hays did a remarkable job of recreating the suits in Spider-Man: No Way Home just as they remembered. The decision to recreate the suits to an almost 1:1 degree makes sense, as the filmmakers would want to clearly visually establish these Spider-Men as different to the current title-holder and leave little doubt that these are the same characters from Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s Spider-Man films. Some fans have, however, criticised how Maguire and Garfield’s characters seemed to be somewhat frozen in time despite their lengthy hiatus from the big screen. In a scene where they compare histories with Holland’s Peter Parker, the pair seem to have not fought any other villains from Spider-Man’s colorful rogues gallery outside of what fans saw in their movies. Fans were somewhat frustrated at the lack of insight as to what each character had done since their films, and slight modifications to their designs may have indicated some additional history. Hopefully, with the improved technology that Hays references, the suits seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home could be preserved for posterity, or maybe even some future appearances and redesigns, down the road. 15. Robert Pattinson is showing his support for all the Batman movies that came before his, declaring that none of them are bad, actually. Though the character of Bruce Wayne has been brought to the big screen numerous times over the years, one of the most anticipated movies of 2022 is The Batman, indicating there is no franchise fatigue here. Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Pattinson as a Bruce in his second year of being Gotham's vigilante, just as he finds himself facing a new challenge in the form of a serial killing Riddler (Paul Dano). The new film is only the latest in a long line of Batman-centric movies. The character has been depicted in film ever since 1943, when he was the lead in a serial film from Columbia Pictures. In terms of the more modern day Batman movies, Bruce Wayne has been played by Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck. Unsurprisingly, fans have their opinions about which ones were the best and which ones (often Clooney's) end up at the bottom of the list. And yet, it's the latest addition to this ever-growing list who has a fondness for everything that came before him. Speaking to Total Film (via GamesRadar+) for a new feature on The Batman, Pattinson opened up about his long-standing affection for the DC character. He revealed he's seen every Batman movie in the theater (presumably from 1989's Batman and beyond), and he feels that none of them are truly bad. Yes, that even seems to include Batman & Robin. Pattinson said: "Out of all the comic-book characters and that kind of movie, I’ve seen every single one of the [Batman] movies in the cinema, which I can’t really say I’ve done for any other series. I was always really looking forward to them coming out. There was the combination of just being so attracted to it, but also feeling like it’d had a lot of movies made about it, and none of them are bad movies. People kind of shit on some of them, but they’re not actually bad. They all kind of completely achieve what they set out to achieve, and they’re all really interesting, according to their time and place. I don’t know. I just had a weird instinct about it. But I’ve always loved the character." As often happens with any long-running franchise, the Batman series has its ups and downs, and there are even some truly dedicated fans who might be hard pressed to support every installment. That Pattinson can find something of worth in each one and recognize what they set out to do is a special thing. It also shows that Pattinson's understanding of the character goes deeper than what some people might've assumed when he was first cast. There was some backlash when Pattinson joined The Batman, but all he's done since then is proven that he is an excellent pick for the role. With The Batman steadily drawing closer, the question on fans' minds will revolve around where it falls on the character's overall ranking. The early hype would have many believe it'll be among the best, but Batman fans can be shrewd in their opinions. Even if it turns out to be unlike what they were expecting, hopefully those who might come away from The Batman disliking it can adopt Pattinson's mindset of appreciating what it does anyway. It's a pretty great way of approaching movies, and it might just be what audiences these days need. Source
  16. Director M. Night Shyamalan recently spoke about why he cast Dave Bautista in his new film, Knock at the Cabin. Shyamalan, known for his work in the supernatural horror genre, is set to direct the new film while balancing his work on Apple TV's Servant as producer and occasional director. Bautista, known for his work in Guardians of the Galaxy, will have another leading role in a film after previously headlining Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead last year. Little is known about Knock at the Cabin, except that its release date is tentatively set for February 3, 2023, and the title implies it will have a smaller scope within the horror genre, Shyamalan's clear comfort zone after the successes of The Visit and Split, with cabins being the most common yet effective location for horror movies there is. Shymalan's current work on Servant reflects this idea with most of the series taking place in one house. Besides Bautista, no other actors have yet been announced for the project. In an interview with THR, Shymalan explains that he was inspired to cast Bautista after his performance in Blade Runner 2049. He explains how Bautista's physical embodiment of the role made him stand out and catch his attention, inspiring him to write the role in Knock at the Cabin for Bautista. Shyamalan also notes it was the fastest he's ever written a script, beating out the writing of his hit film Signs. Read his full quote below: “There’s a type of stillness where you’re not doing nothing; you’re doing everything and you’re still. Every cell in your body will do what it’s supposed to do if you’re thinking something correctly. And Dave was embodying all of this philosophy in that scene … I didn’t know who he was at that time, and he stuck in my head. So when this script came, I was like, ‘There seems to be one guy who can play this giant human being and do the stillness.’ So I asked Dave.” Bautista became known in Hollywood for his comedic timing and imposing screen presence, but with performances in Blade Runner 2049 (and its short 2048: Nowhere to Run,) Dune, and his appearance on the anthology series, Room 104, Bautista has shown that he has the range to carry more dramatic roles as well. Bautista is another on a growing list of wrestlers who develop successful acting careers along with Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, and CM Punk. Along with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Bautista is also scheduled to appear in the ensemble of Knives Out 2. Though Shyamalan's career has attracted mixed reception, it's clear the director has a comfort zone in lower budget supernatural horror films, which hopefully Knock at the Cabin will adhere to. Though it's important for directors to experiment, there's also nothing wrong with having a genre that works for them, and M. Night Shyamalan has shown time and time again he works best in claustrophobic, atmospheric, thrillers. As for Dave Bautista, hopefully, Knock at the Cabin will prove worthy of his talents. Source

  18. Warning: This post contains spoilers for Scream. Scream star Melissa Barrera explains why her character Sam didn't accept Sidney Prescott's help at first. In its fifth showing on the big screen, the Scream franchise has once again reinvented itself with the help of Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The new film, which debuted in theaters earlier this month, tackles toxic fandom and Hollywood's current obsession with revisiting beloved properties. That means that, naturally, Scream brings everything back to the original, whether it be by recreating certain plot points or featuring the onscreen returns of numerous characters. At the same time, Scream sets up the next generation of Ghostface victims and survivors with a group of new characters led by Barrera's Sam. Positioned as the new Sidney, Sam is a former Woodsboro resident who gets pulled back to the tragedy-prone town when her sister Tara (Jenna Ortega) is brutally attacked by the new Ghostface. All of the current killings seem to be related to Sam's darkest secret, and as she is the primary target of Ghostface's new plot, Sidney (Neve Campbell) offers assistance in how to handle being the object of obsession for a serial killer. However, Sam turns down Sidney's offer at first, eager to instead run away from Woodsboro for the second time in her life. Barrera recently broke down Sam's thought process in an interview with THR. While getting advice and possibly even protection from Sidney Prescott herself might seem like an appealing prospect, Barrera said Sam's determination to leave Woodsboro is far stronger than her need to confront Ghostface. In fact, the actress pointed out that determination nearly wins out, though the masked killer gets in the way. Barrera said: Staying in Woodsboro is just too painful for her. She was using drugs and alcohol and acting out as a way to escape a reality she could not handle. So the idea of having to deal with something that she’s been running away from would be taking steps back. At this point in her life, she has a job, she has a boyfriend and she feels like she’s finally made it out of the dark cloud. But then all of this starts to happen. She knows that it’s related to her and that she’s the reason it’s happening to Tara. So it’s scary, but she just wants out. She doesn’t have the fighting instinct in that way. She has a different fighter instinct because she’s tough, but she doesn’t have any inclination to stay around a figure that has haunted her for so long. There’s just no interest. She’s run away; that’s her MO. She’s a runner. If it weren’t for Ghostface who lured her back to the Macher house, she would’ve just gone away and put that in the past. But then there would be no amazing act three that we have in the movie, so they had to bring her back. Luckily, Sidney isn't put off by Sam's rejection and, along with Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), sticks around for the act 3 showdown at Stu Macher's old house. That allows Scream a few triumphant moments between the surviving women of the franchise, which also includes a seriously resilient Tara. Sam's reasoning for ignoring Sidney's offer of help makes sense from her perspective even if, as a viewer, it's hard to accept. Anyone watching a Scream movie knows Ghostface isn't easy to run away from, and that Sam's decision to leave certainly won't be enough to distance her from the killer. Source
  19. Colin Farrell reveals the makeup transformation required to become The Batman’s Penguin took four hours. Writer/director Matt Reeves’ reboot will see Robert Pattinson the Caped Crusader early on in his vigilante career in Gotham City. Inspired by comics like Batman: Year One and The Long Halloween, Reeves' The Batman will also introduce a handful of iconic villains from its rogues gallery, including Zoe Kravitz’s Catwoman, Paul Dano’s Riddler, John Turturro’s Carmine Falcone, and Farrell's Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot, aka Penguin. As Bruce Wayne investigates a string of gruesome murders, the Zodiac Killer-inspired Riddler will serve as the film’s main villain. Dano’s Riddler has remained largely hidden throughout The Batman’s promotional campaign and Farrell's unrecognizable, make-up-caked turn as the bloated Penguin has attracted a lot of attention. Despite being teased as a minor supporting character, fans can’t wait to see his gritter, more comics-accurate take on the crooked-nose gangster from DC Comics. During a recent interview with Variety, Farrell briefly discussed the process of achieving Penguin's look for The Batman. According to the actor, applying the character’s combover, make-up, and prosthetics took “four hours” before they eventually “got it down to two.” Farrell went on to talk about his motivation for taking a supporting role in the film being Reeves himself, calling The Batman director “a wonderful filmmaker, so I was just grateful to be allowed anywhere near it." The actor went on to tease the film as "a very unique take on a story that’s often been told,” further hyping Reeves' new look at a hero who has been re-visited by countless filmmakers. Farrell was reportedly so unrecognizable that those on The Batman set didn’t even realize it was him. However, while much of the hype surrounding his performance relates to his look, the character will not be defined by his gimmick, and gone is the birdman from previous depictions like Danny DeVito’s iteration in Batman Returns. Farrell's more grounded version, existing in a grittier Gotham, takes emotional inspiration from The Godfather franchise’s Fredo Corleone. The Batman will set up its Penguin as a mocked member of his respective crime family and a sort of foil to Bruce Wayne. Farrell won’t have a big role in The Batman, but Warner Bros. and DC Films clearly wants his Penguin for future projects. Otherwise, it wouldn’t necessarily make sense to apply hours worth of makeup to such a big name for a role that could’ve simply been played by someone who is overweight and balding. That said, two HBO Max spinoffs are in development focusing on the Gotham Police Department and the Penguin’s origins — the latter of which is being executive produced by Reeves and written by Lauren LeFranc (Agents of SHIELD and Impluse) attached to write its scripts. While Farrell isn't yet confirmed to be involved with the series, The Batman is poised to set it up when it releases in theaters this March, where audiences will finally see the results of Farrell's arduous days in the makeup chair. 20. A new piece of fan art has united Eric Bana, Edward Norton, and Mark Ruffalo for a Spider-Man: No Way Home-style Hulk movie in a poster. Bana starred in Ang Lee's 2003 film, Hulk, while Norton's The Incredible Hulk introduced the strongest Avenger to the Marvel universe. Ruffalo picked up the role from Norton, becoming the face of the MCU's Bruce Banner throughout many productions, starting with 2012's The Avengers. While Ruffalo has become the most recognizable face of Bruce Banner on-screen, there have been many actors portraying the character in live-action. Actors Bill Bixby and Lou Ferringo played Banner and his gamma-powered alter-ego, the Incredible Hulk, in a 1978 television series and several TV movies. With the renewed interest in superhero movies in the early 2000s, Lee tried his hand at a Hulk adaptation in 2003, casting Bana. A planned sequel was reworked into The Incredible Hulk after the first movie received a lukewarm reception. Unfortunately, following the second film, Norton quickly left the role of Hulk due to differing priorities with the studio, leaving Ruffalo to pick up the role in The Avengers. He has since portrayed the character throughout the Infinity Saga and beyond. In the wake of the concept of the MCU's multiverse being introduced and Spider-Man: No Way Home uniting all cinematic live-action Spider-Men on screen for the first time, one fan has imagined what a multiversal Hulk movie could look like. Posting to their Instagram account, digital artist and art director Agt Design shared a fan-made poster of a Hulk movie uniting all three cinematic Hulk actors. Titled "Hulk-Verse," the poster shows all three Bruce Banner actors alongside their respective Hulks. The three Banners are joined by Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange and William Hurt's General Thadeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, with a 2003 release date. Check out Agt Designs' artwork below. Click here to view the original post After Ruffalo's Banner made an appearance in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' post-credits scene advising the newest Avenger from his laboratory via hologram, the character is set to introduce more gamma-powered heroes to the MCU. Ruffalo will appear in She-Hulk, advising his cousin Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) as she balances her She-Hulk identity with her lawyer career. Ruffalo and Maslany will be joined by a face from the Hulk's initial MCU adventure, as the Abomination is set to return following a brief cameo in Shang-Chi, played by Tim Roth as he reprises his role. While he was surprised at his return, Roth has praised both Ruffalo and Maslany ahead of the show's presumed release in 2022. While circumstances may differ from Spider-Man: No Way Home, a "Hulk-Verse" movie would be possible with the MCU's lore. Though Norton and Ruffalo play the same version of Banner, with What If..? retconning Ruffalo into the events of The Incredible Hulk, Norton's appearance could be treated as a variant from an alternate timeline, much like those seen in Loki. Hulk's cinematic history is a complex one, with recasts and right issues, so a "Hulk-Verse" film could be the perfect opportunity to give the character a solo film he's desperately owed in the MCU.
