  1. Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shares some plot details about Thor: Love and Thunder. The upcoming Marvel film is set to follow on from the events of Avengers: Endgame and is directed by Taika Watiti, who returns to the MCU after directing the hugely successful Thor: Ragnarok. As a sequel to that movie, Thor: Love and Thunder will be the fourth installment in the Thor series of MCU movies. Waititi's film will partly serve as an adaptation of The Mighty Thor run of comics in which Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, takes on the powers and title of the God of Thunder while undergoing treatment for cancer. Portman played a main role in the first two films in the Thor series, and while she was absent from Thor: Ragnarok, she clearly looks to be an integral part of Thor: Love and Thunder. Another actor reprising their role in the series is Thompson, whose Valkyrie is the ruler of New Asgard and one of Thor’s closest friends. The character is also bisexual, and it is hoped that her sexuality will be shown directly in Thor: Love and Thunder after the MCU’s history of only minor references to LGBTQ+ characters and storylines. Now, in an interview with TheWrap, Thompson sheds some light on the upcoming film and shares a few details about its central story. The American actor speaks about the previous lack of representation for LGBTQ+ characters in the MCU as well as the lack of significant romance in general, noting that the franchise has devoted little time to love stories. She then goes on to explain that fans could expect Thor: Love and Thunder to be slightly different in this respect. Check out the actor’s full comments below: We talk so much about representation and obviously, in terms of the LGBTQIA community, there’s still so much work to be done. But if you look at the comics in the canon, there are so many queer characters! It’s hard because Taika and I would’ve even liked to go further, but in the context of the movies, there’s only so much we can do. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of time invested in love stories in Marvel movies in general. I think that will be a little different on the new Thor, which is exciting. And getting to play a character that historically is not written for somebody that looks like me, all of that felt exciting. Thompson is right to say that the romantic subplots in MCU films have typically been supplementary to the progression of the story, rather than central to it. Romance has been more integral to some of the films, for example the relationship between Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Zendaya’s MJ, but more often than not, the romance is a forgettable part of the script. Fans, therefore, will likely be intrigued to see an MCU release that puts its romance closer to the center of the story. Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in 2022, after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Whether it will be Chris Hemsworth’s last outing as Thor is unclear, but the actor has said he is willing to continue to play the character as long as the stories are good enough. Thor has become a fan-favorite character, especially since Thor: Ragnarok, so fans will undoubtedly be hoping to see more of him, and Valkyrie, in the franchise’s future. Source
  2. The biggest sci-fi releases set for release in 2022 are all sequels, contributing to a snowballing problem for the genre in today’s cinematic landscape. The upcoming slate includes massive box office hits such as the ever-dependable Marvel franchise, the long-awaited Avatar 2 and Jurassic World: Dominion. Sci-fi has become the new frontier of the box-office draw, from the superhero genre pushing the boundaries of human potential, to the established juggernauts of Jurassic World and Star Wars setting up their own audience monopolies in comfortable corners of the box office rankings, with Star Wars prepped to release six new movies in its next phase of expansion. But 2022's slate of sci-fi sequels hints at problems on the horizon. The coronavirus pandemic also has served to exacerbate the problem, with Covid-19 truncating the typical summer movie slate and the U.S. box office down 60% from 2019 (via The Guardian.) Audiences are less willing to risk their health and their money on an original cinematic release which might disappoint them, and will probably also be available to stream for free in a matter of days from any one of the available platforms. In a difficult and stressful time, nostalgia and the sure thing of known franchises have ruled the day. However, the sci-fi genre is facing a critical point in 2022 where it is cannibalizing its existing properties to the encroaching detriment of its ability to innovate as a storytelling vehicle. The box office draw of major established franchises is indisputable, but sci-fi is a genre which thrives on original ideas. Audiences enjoy having their minds blown at the movies, whether by believing a man can fly in Superman, or watching in awe as dinosaurs take the stage in Jurassic Park. Sci-fi is about stretching the bounds of the imagination, taking viewers to fantastical worlds and witnessing futuristic technology and civilizations. Unfortunately, the upcoming sci-fi movies of 2022 herald a display of sequels when the genre should be expanding and innovating if it is to keep the wheel of audience interest spinning. Risks including James Cameron’s original Avatar, Spielberg’s Jurassic Park and George Lucas’ Star Wars were seminal films which evoked awe and joy from its viewers. Now, the franchise machine is throwing out the same stories in slightly different clothes, with the consequence that audiences are feeling less inspired and increasingly bored. 2022 Most anticipated Sci Fi movies Black Adam Avatar 2 jurassic world dominion As the most successful brand, the Marvel machine has faced particularly heated criticism from notable directors such as Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg in recent years, with creative executives across the industry voicing worry over the potential death of original cinema. The sci-fi genre is suffering under the weight of its own successful franchises, leaving it no room to breathe fresh ideas into its film offerings. Marvel movies first faced criticism from Martin Scorsese in 2019 for creating a “chicken-and-egg" scenario, in which he stated: “If people are given only one kind of thing and endlessly sold only one kind of thing, of course they’re going to want more of that one kind of thing.” (via Vox.) Still, while they're the lightning rod, it's not just Marvel at fault here. The biggest sci-fi movies in recent years have all been uninspired legacy sequel retreads, from the Star Wars sequel trilogy to the Jurassic World movies. 2022's sci-fi movies only move further away from originality. Franchises are definitely a safer box office draw than original concept films, but viewers are starting to become fatigued. It’s notable that Spielberg predicted back in 2013 that the increasing pile-up of sequels would result in an inevitable implosion within the industry (via Variety). The sci-fi genre has become a victim of its own success. Where it used to push the accepted construct of what was normal and possible in new and fascinating ways, it has since leaned on its own proven formulae and has come to rest on its laurels. It is a tragic symptom of the dying cinematic landscape that the most innovative genre is on a crash course with mediocrity and 2022's sci-fi movies will only help hasten that downfall. Time will only tell how much can be salvaged from the wreckage. Source
  3. On top of breaking box-office records, Spider-Man: No Way Home has also broken a well-known superhero movie curse. The third chapter of MCU’s Spider-Man saga opened the doors to the multiverse in an epic story that will forever have an impact on Peter Parker’s life. After months of anticipation, No Way Home delivered on expectations and proves that MCU’s Multiverse plan is full of potential. By bringing back villains from every previously Spider-Man franchise, No Way Home had an enormous creative challenge to surpass, and yet the movie succeeded where a lot of superhero movies failed. For years, any superhero film featuring more than two villains was always expected to fail. The “three villains curse” is often pointed to as one of the biggest flaws in many productions and has become almost a rule when trying to predict the quality of an upcoming superhero movie. For Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, trying to combine the stories of the New Goblin, Sandman, and Venom was one of the reasons why the third entry in the series was not as good as the first two. Similarly, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had two villains’ storylines while also trying to set up Rhino and the Sinister Six. The X-Men films also did not escape from that problem in X-Men: The Last Stand (Magneto, Jean, and the cure’s storyline) and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Saber-tooth, Striker, and Deadpool). Spider-Man: No Way Home finally breaks that curse by having five villains placed on a cohesive story that has culminated in a successful film. After fighting Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was now placed against five multiversal villains all at once. Going by the mentioned tradition, No Way Home had everything to be a disaster in terms of pacing and storytelling. However, the movie’s great reception both by critics and the audiences showed that having too many villains was never the problem. The real struggle faced by superhero films, no matter how many villains were in it, was how to converge the antagonists’ journeys into a single storyline that served the themes of the movie and elevated the main character. Having only one main story in which each of the villains was placed is how No Way Home avoids the real issue behind the other films’ failures. Despite having different arcs and different levels of importance throughout the movie, all the villains in No Way Home were there to contribute to Peter Parker’s growth by making him face the same challenges that others Peter Parkers had encountered. Spider-Man: No Way Home is already a landmark not only in Spider-Man films but also in superhero production as a whole, and finding a way to break the “too many villains” curse is one of the reasons for it. No Way Home’s outstanding financial success can serve as a lesson for future superhero movies that the number of villains is not directly related to how good or bad the production will be. Instead, the quality of the story, and how each character can contribute to it, is what the film must truly focus on. Source
  4. A The Mandalorian-style end credits roll for the classic Star Wars: A New Hope has been shared on Reddit. Star Wars has been a phenomenon since the release of A New Hope back in 1977. It changed the pop culture scene with science fiction and fantasy films, serving as an incredibly iconic film that set off a whole new beloved franchise. The Skywalker Saga has seen nine films, alongside standalone movies and spinoff shows such as Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Clone Wars and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Disney eventually bought the Star Wars franchise in 2012, removing the episode numbers from the titles along the way. Much like the franchise itself, The Mandalorian has been a cultural hit ever since its Disney+ debut in November of 2019. The Star Wars spinoff was one of the key reasons for the streaming service's early success, with plenty of subscribers tuning in to watch the first episode. The Mandalorian season 2 dropped in December of 2020 after fans demanded more Mando content, especially after the internet star Grogu (Baby Yoda) became the show's most popular character. The Mandalorian itself has averaged 93% on the Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, showing the incredible universal love for the show. In a recent post from Reddit user u/whatamelonofficial, Star Wars: A New Hope was given a new end credits roll in the style of The Mandalorian. The spinoff show's memorable credits roll shows beautiful artwork from the episode's runtime. This time around, the Reddit user combined the already iconic finale Throne Room/End Title sequence with artwork from the film. Lucas' creativity has allowed the Star Wars world to flourish, with many of the current spinoffs, including The Mandalorian, getting more fleshed out stories and exploring more of the Star Wars world. The latest show is Disney+'s The Book of Boba Fett, which just release episode 4, "Chapter 4: The Gathering Storm." The spinoff show continues on from the end of Return of the Jedi, follwing the fan-favorite character Boba Fett after he manages to heal from the Sarlacc and return to Tatooine to take over Jabba the Hutt's crime empire. Already, 2022 has proved to be another special year for Star Wars fans, as plenty of content from the galaxy far, far away is set to be released. Long-awaited shows such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor will be coming out, as well as the highly-anticipated The Mandalorian season 3. For now, released dates for the next Mando installment, Ahosoka and Lando are still yet to be confirmed. But just as this fan-made credits edit proves, Star Wars loyalists continue to be invested in seeing how all of these intricate spinoff projects might connect with Lucas' original trilogy, and add to the ever-growing Star Wars lore. 5. Warning: This post contains spoilers for Scream 2022. Despite establishing a new set of meta slasher rules, the long-awaited Scream 2022 also broke one of the longest-running unspoken rules of the entire franchise. Not only does the 5th chapter in the Scream movie series finally kill off Dewey (David Arquette) but it also compromises the otherwise unquestionable power of Ghostface. That much is a major deviation from the traditional sanctity of the villain. Ghostface is one of the most intriguing horror movie villains ever created because his mythology transcends the specifics of identity. Despite 9 different characters putting the iconic white mask and black robes on, several things unite every version of Scream’s Ghostface killer. Such is the approach to meta filmmaking that Ghostface is a mythological being who can be studied and performed, who comes with identifying quirks, strengths, and weaknesses, but who is, by design, is unflinchingly human. He falls, he has no supernatural shortcuts, he’s frequently beaten up, but there’s a relentless, frenzied approach to his attacks that make him terrifying. One other rule that has defined Ghostface and the Scream movie series so far, at least before 2022’s outing, was the infallibility of his knife - with one obvious caveat. There has been a conspicuous lack of survivors of actual Ghostface stabbing attacks, despite Dewey surviving multiple attacks, because the Scream movies never undermined the brutal efficiency of Ghostface. It was that high kill number and the awful inevitability of death (for all but those with plot armor like Sidney and Gale) that made Ghostface’s lack of grace all the more terrifying: the ends amplifying the chaotic means. But Scream 2022 has multiple characters survive stabbings, making Ghostface look far weaker than ever before and breaking a pillar rule of the franchise: never undermine the killer. There have been survivors before of course. Gale was stabbed in Scream 4 and has survived other non-knife related attacks, Dewey is an obvious exception, and Kirby survived Charlie’s attack in Scream 4. But all are protected by plot armor, including Kirby if you choose to accept the theory that Charlie didn’t mean to actually kill her and wanted her to appear dead so Jill didn’t finish her off. In arguably the strangest case, Dewey survived three knife attacks but was never intended to survive the first, so his subsequent attacks became a meta trope in themselves until they could be paid off by his actual death. Whoever actually killed him gained the power boost, in other words, so there was no compromise in having him survive. But Scream 5 has Gale and Sidney survive, as is tradition, and then adds Tara, Chad, and Mindy to the survivors' column. For the first time, Ghostface looks incompetent. It could, of course, be said that the survival rate is an attempted commentary on how unsuitable Richie (Jack Quaid) and Amber (Mikey Madison) were to save the Ghostface brand and “requelize” the Stab movies. But this universe has always been about rules, and making a requel by breaking such a fundamental rule as the sanctity of the killer’s power is something of a crime. Yes, it sets up a Scream 2022 sequel where multiple survivors can return, but and the pay-off would have impact if they were killed in future, but it feels like a sloppy price to pay for that when Ghostface demands protection. 6. Andrew Garfield only shared the secret of his Spider-Man: No Way Home role with a few people, mostly within his family. Garfield kept the internet on their toes throughout 2021 as rumors swirled that he would reprise his Peter Parker for the first time since 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in No Way Home. As he promoted other films like The Eyes of Tammy Faye and tick, tick... BOOM!, he lied about his involvement with the MCU film, even as images of him on set leaked online. As the movie's December release finally confirmed, Garfield is in fact in No Way Home. He, just like Maguire, appears in the film's final act to give Holland's Peter some key superhero advice and assist in sending the villains from other universes back to where they came from. Since then, fans have been celebrating Garfield's version of the character online and calling on Sony to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3. So far, nothing is officially in the works, but Garfield has shown his willingness to return. Right now, though, he's enjoying his victory lap. Garfield has remarked on his Spider-Man return multiple times over the past few weeks, and most recently, he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about his amazing year. On the subject of the secret he kept in the lead-up to No Way Home, Garfield admitted there were a few people he told. "My dad, my brother, and my mother at the time," he said. "Yeah, just kind of us." Even though practically everyone worked out his involvement with Spider-Man: No Way Home ahead of time, Garfield still worked to keep it a secret. He admitted recently that lying about it was the best option, and that he even had a lot of fun doing it. Garfield was so committed to keeping it a secret, he lied to his Amazing Spider-Man co-star Emma Stone. His efforts went deep, though he at least knew better than to keep it from his family. There are some people you just can't lie to. His role in the film was the worst kept secret in Hollywood, yet it also didn't diminish fans' excitement at seeing Garfield walk through a portal in Spider-Man: No Way Home. It speaks to both his portrayal and the sheer delight of No Way Home as a whole that knowing certain things didn't ruin the overall experience. Garfield himself seems pleased with how everything panned out, which ultimately is what is most important. He didn't have the best experience with the Amazing Spider-Man movies, but at least with No Way Home, he got redemption in several ways. Source
  7. The first teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio reveals Ewan McGregor's Cricket. McGregor joins a cast that includes Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, David Bradley, Ron Perlman, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Tim Blake Nelson, and John Turturro. Gregory Mann serves as the voice of Pinocchio in the first stop-motion animated version of the classic tale. Del Toro has been developing the stop-motion feature since as far back as 2008, which is based on Carlo Collodi’s Italian classic, The Adventures of Pinocchio. The film is said to be set in Mussolini's Italy, featuring Pinocchio's wooden boy as the "perfect soldier" according to actor Ron Perlman, who voices Mangiafuoco in the film, who said recently that Pinocchio "doesn't ever question orders. He doesn't have fears. He's invulnerable. He's all the things the perfect soldier needs to be." This is a decidedly new take on the classic character and the story altogether, but one that will no doubt have del Toro's signature style. The new film is said to more closely follow the original book, rather than the 1941 Disney adaptation, which took its own creative liberties. Now, audiences have their first look at del Toro's Pinocchio, as Netflix has released the first-look teaser trailer for the film. The trailer features McGregor's "Sebastian J. Cricket" who says that "it's a story you may think you know, but you don't" giving further evidence that the new take will be something more akin to the original book than just an adaptation of the classic animated film. Take a look at the trailer below: Del Toro recently released Nightmare Alley starring Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett, while McGregor will reprise his Star Wars role in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi later this year. The actor has multiple other projects lined up, including the WWII film The Cow from director Marc Forster and a biopic about British mountain climber, George Mallory in Doug Liman's Everest. In addition to del Toro's Pinocchio, another version is also in the works from director Robert Zemeckis, which is said to be a live-action hybrid, starring Tom Hanks, Luke Evans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Keegan-Michael Key. With two warring Pinocchio adaptations set drop in 2022, it will be interesting to see which one fares better with audiences and critics. Del Toro's version is sure to be a darker tale, although the trailer doesn't suggest anything too macabre, despite Perlman's "perfect soldier" comments. Still, there's plenty of room for multiple adaptations and both del Toro and Zemeckis are amazing filmmakers, so it's a win-win for audiences. Whether one will be darker than the other is up for grabs, but certainly the expectation would be for del Toro's version to have that edge. All will be revealed when Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio releases in December 2022. Source

  9. Can somebody give this man a hug? Maybe not your iTunes account info, but a big hug? Bono, a colossally successful rock star who has a lot of fans and a lot of money, seems to be going through some sort of existential crisis, telling The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast that U2 now makes him “cringe” with most of their songs, his vocals, and their name choice. “I’ve been in the car when one of our songs has come on the radio and I’ve been the color, as we say in Dublin, scarlet. I’m just so embarrassed,” he explained. “I do think U2 pushes out the boat on embarrassment quite a lot, and maybe that’s the place to be as an artist — you know, right at the edge of your level of embarrassment. And the lyrics as well. I feel that on Boy and other albums, it was sketched out, very unique and original material. But I don’t think I filled in the details.” Besides U2’s 2004 smash hit “Vertigo,” Bono said that listening to himself sing “makes me cringe a bit,” as well as when he remembers what the band is called. “In our head, it was like the spy plane, U-boat,” he recalled. “It was futuristic, as it turned out to imply this kind of acquiescence. No, I don’t like that name. I still don’t really like the name.” However, Bono stressed that his criticisms are self-effacing and not at all related to his bandmates, whom he called “incredible” musicians. (Also good, because the Edge was his fellow podcast guest.) “I just found the voice very strained and kind of not macho and my Irish macho was kind of strained by that,” he added. “A big discovery for me was listening to the Ramones and hearing the beautiful kind of sound of Joey Ramone and realizing I didn’t have to be that rock-and-roll singer. But I only became a singer recently. Maybe it hasn’t happened yet for some people’s ears, and I understand that.” Bono, baby. There’s only One of you. Can someone from U2’s 18 million Spotify fans tell him how great he is? Source

The month of tour kicks off March 18 in University Park, Pennsylvania. Then, it ends June 18 in Chula Vista, California. The members of Slipknot are all very excited for 2022 tour. They feel good about getting back on the road and even share with fans that this upcoming tour will be a “brand new experience.” With the hardships of Covid, it’s something both the band and the fans are strongly looking forward to. Here’s what frontman Corey Taylor had to say on the 2022 tour, “Whether it’s In This Moment and Jinjer, or Cypress and Ho99o9, we pride ourselves in bringing our fans the epicenter of our music and art. Come celebrate with us, and try to stay as safe as we will be.” Live Nation will be giving ticket buyers collectible NFT ticket stubs, all part of their new initiative. Tickets for the 2022 Knotfest Roadshow go on sale Friday, January 21 at 10 AM. Pre-sales have just started today. So, be sure to grab your tickets before they sell out! For all you Knotheads, there’s also Knotfest Germany to look forward to as well, which will be taking place July 30, 2022. Bands scheduled to play include In Flames and Ghostemane. Slipknot is due to put out an album this year. They’ve even released a single titled “The Chapeltown Rag.” This upcoming album will be the follow up to their 2019 album, We Are Not Your Kind. Source
  11. The Moon Knight trailer is out now, and among the thousands of fans glued to the TV waiting for its premiere on Monday night was none other than the show's lead star himself, Oscar Isaac. The Dune actor stars as the titular hero, first introduced in the trailer as Steven Grant, a museum employee with dissociative identity disorder. The trailer for the new Marvel series later reveals his alternate identity, mercenary Marc Spector (or Moon Knight), who'll soon be finding himself entangled with the dealings of Egyptian gods and other characters inspired by ancient mythology. Moon Knight will span six episodes and also star Ethan Hawke as a currently unnamed villain. Aside from Isaac, Hawke, and two other actors, Gaspard Ulliel and May Calamawy, Marvel has for the most part kept coy about the show's cast and plot details. The air of mystery surrounding Moon Knight only fueled anticipation for the trailer that debuted on ESPN and ABC during the NFL Wild Card game between the Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams. Isaac himself was just as excited, and based on his filmmaker wife Elvira Lind's Instagram story, it appears they decided to make a night out of the Moon Knight trailer release. The couple, along with some family and friends, grabbed snacks and wine and tuned into Monday Night Football to catch the Moon Knight trailer premiere. Check out Lind's photo below. Isaac is generally known to be one of the more down-to-earth personalities in Hollywood, so it's fun to see him acting like the rest of us, sitting at the edge of his couch and waiting for the trailer of his own show. Keep in mind that actors, even those in starring roles, are but a small part of a larger production that also employs hundreds of people working behind the camera and in the editing room. At this point, Isaac likely hasn't seen much of the finalized footage that appeared in the trailer, so it makes sense for Moon Knight's lead star to be as enthused as anyone else. Isaac, hopefully, came away pleased with the result. His performance seems promising as the Guatemalan-born actor sports a British accent and frantic demeanor, grappling with both his real-life and superhero personas. The trailer is dark, trippy and humorous all at the same time, and Moon Knight seems primed to fit well with the overall tone of the MCU while also maintaining its own distinct character. Fans will find out soon enough when Moon Knight premieres on Disney+ on March 30. Source
  12. Willem Dafoe has revealed that he "fantasized" about playing an imposter version of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. Dafoe is known amongst Spider-Man fans all across the world as the face behind the Green Goblin in Sam Rami’s 2002 adaptation of Spider-Man. The actor recently reprised his role as the villain in the hugely successful Spider-Man: No Way Home, and his performance was singled out for particular praise from critics and fans alike. Spider-Man: No Way Home has become the most financially successful comic-book film since the release of the Joaquin Phoenix-led Joker back in late 2019, directed by Todd Phillips. The film was praised for its grittiness, comic-accurate depiction of Gotham city, and the acting of its lead, Phoenix, who went on to win the year’s Academy Award for Best Actor. Joker was conceived as a standalone film that did not connect to the wider DC Extended Universe. However, due to its surprising commercial success, demand for a Joker 2 sequel movie has been growing. If it were to happen, many fans hope Phillips would again be writing the script, and that Phoenix would return to reprise his Joker role. Now, in an interview with GQ, Dafoe has made some comments about a potential Joker sequel that could get fans excited. The actor was asked to reflect on whether or not he’d ever play the character, after years of being told he is a great fit for the role. Dafoe responded that he would love to play the part, and even has ideas for how he could fit into a sequel to Phoenix's Joker and portray the Clown Prince of Crime alongside him. Check out Dafoe’s comments below: “There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker imposter. So it would be possible to have not dueling Jokers but someone that says to be the Joker that isn't the Joker. And that kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did. I fantasised about that. But other than that I am not talking to anybody [about it], you're the first one.” Dafoe's comments will be music to the ears of fans who have been fan-casting the actor as Batman’s arch-nemesis for years. What's more, after his fantastic portrayal as the Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the actor will have reminded any doubters of his ability to portray a menacing and unhinged villain so many years after the original Spider-Man. Dafoe’s willingness to portray the character aside, his idea for a Joker movie involving a copy-cat villain is also something that will intrigue fans, and certainly would be an interesting premise on which to base a potential Joker 2. The actor’s Joker pitch will no doubt fuel hype and speculation about the sequel, with many fans likely keen to see Dafoe appear as his "imposter" Joker. Now that his ideas are out in the open, if Dafoe never gets the chance to play the Joker, it will be regarded as a massive missed opportunity. However, fans shouldn’t despair if the actor isn’t in a Phoenix-led follow-up, as it's possible that his unique ideas for a Joker movie may be picked up by another brave filmmaker. Source
  13. Shazam! Fury of the Gods producer Peter Safran says the movie is funnier and more action-packed than the original. The upcoming DCEU project is a direct sequel to 2019's Shazam!, with director David F. Sandberg and star Zachary Levi both returning. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently scheduled for theatrical release on June 2, 2023. The first film established the backstory of teenager Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who gains the ability to transform into the superhero Shazam (Levi) by shouting his alter-ego's name, which is actually that of the wizard who named Billy his champion (Djimon Hounsou). By the climax, Billy's foster siblings had also been granted superhero forms, with each gaining one of Shazam's many powers, and they all collaborate to defeat the film's villains. Despite Sandberg having previously been known as a horror director, Shazam! earned praise from critics and audiences for its playful comedic timing, standing out as a bright spot in a DCEU lineup that had enjoyed only mixed success up to that point. Now, with a sequel on the way, Safran takes a break from promoting Peacemaker to share his thoughts on Shazam! Fury of the Gods with Collider. After listing what he loved about the first movie, the producer praises this next installment for going bigger with each of them. He also singles out some of the new, high-profile cast members as reasons for excitement, and notes that the central kids being older means Sandberg & Co. can take more comedic risks: ...I loved the first Shazam movie. I thought it was beautifully done. I thought that David Sandberg nailed that tone so incredibly well. The eye of the needle was so small to get it right, but he really did nail it. I feel like this second one has more emotion, more humor, but it also has bigger action, bigger set pieces, some great villains. I just feel like it's everything that we loved in the first movie but really turned up to 11. So I love it. I think the addition of some of these new characters with Rachel Zegler and Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are fantastic additions. I love that the kids are all a little bit older now so we get to have a little bit more fun in kind of an edgier fashion with them. Zach inhabits that character in such a beautiful fashion. So to have been able to make a second one of those, it's a thrill. helen-mirren-shazam While relatively little is known about the story of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, acclaimed actors Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are confirmed to be playing Hespera and Kalypso, respectively, two daughters of the titan Atlas that will serve as villains. Though West Side Story breakout star Rachel Zegler's character has yet to be named, she has revealed she'll be playing another sister of the two goddesses, adding intrigue to her brief clip from DC Fandome speaking to Billy's foster-brother Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer). That same event confirmed the franchise will be taking a step up in terms of locations, at some point journeying all the way to the realm of the gods. Fans of the first Shazam! will surely be glad to see one of the sequel's producers so confident. On top of the returning elements that already worked, the additions of established actors like Mirren and Liu and rising talents like Zegler should have potential viewers eager to get their next look at Shazam! Fury of the Gods. They should expect to wait some time, however, as the film has plenty ahead of it on a crowded DC release calendar that should get more attention from Warner Bros. marketing department. Source
  14. In an ironic twist of fate, the location where Scarface filmed its iconic chainsaw scene is now an actual drug store. As a remake of the 1932 film of the same name, Brian De Palma’s Scarface (1983) rivals the classic status of its predecessor. De Palma’s gangster movie, which was written by Oliver Stone, stars Al Pacino as Cuban refugee Tony Montana, who quickly becomes the most powerful cocaine kingpin in Miami and, in turn, the state of Florida. However, increased pressure from Colombian drug cartels, the police, an explosive temper, and a handful of bad decisions inevitably lead to his downfall. Due to the film’s overt profanity and violence (among other things), Scarface caused quite a bit of controversy upon its release. Still, it was a box-office success and has since become a pop-culture staple - even casual moviegoers recognize the quote, “Say hello to my little friend!” Scarface features several iconic lines and scenes, including the final shootout in Tony’s mansion. However, perhaps the most infamous scene happens early on in the film, when Tony and his associate, Angel (Pepe Serna), meet some Colombian dealers in a hotel room - which doesn’t end well for Angel. As shared by @sick_66 on Twitter, the real-life location where Scarface’s chainsaw scene was filmed is now a CVS Pharmacy. Situated at 728 Ocean Drive in South Beach, Miami, the 10,062-square-foot property was comprised of apartments before being converted into a drug store in 2018. The building is one of the few Miami locales used in Scarface, as the bulk of production took place in Los Angeles due to filming permit conflicts with local authorities. Aside from the three portholes, the building has changed a lot since the ‘80s. Check it out below: The Scarface chainsaw scene location got turned into a CVS lol pic.twitter.com/qUTe7wlXar — Alejandra (@sick__66) January 17, 2022 Click Here to View the Original Post In the scene, Tony and Angel’s drug deal goes south, and while Tony is able to walk away, Angel is dismembered in a bathtub with a chainsaw. Although most of the carnage happens offscreen, the shocking scene is seared into the minds of everyone who has seen Scarface. Rumors have persisted that a gorier version of the scene was shot, but while De Palma did remove one shot, no other version exists. Like the above building, Scarface is set to get another update. A remake, written by Joel and Ethan Coen, has been in development since 2011, and at one point Antoine Fuqua was attached to direct. Now, Call Me By Your Name's Luca Guadagnino will helm a reboot of the R-rated gangster drama taking place in L.A. In more ways than one, Scarface deconstructs the American Dream, and the remake will no doubt put a contemporary spin on this, perhaps going from immigration to gentrification. Source
  15. Ray Fisher offers new criticism towards Joss Whedon's delayed Justice League defense statement in regards to allegations of a toxic set. Fisher made his DC Extended Universe debut as Victor Stone/Cyborg with a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before getting his proper introduction and screen time in Justice League. Despite initially being directed by co-writer Zack Snyder for the majority of the team-up movie's production, things would begin to get rocky when Snyder stepped down due to his daughter's suicide and creative differences with Warner Bros. over the vision of the film. The studio would elect to bring in The Avengers' Joss Whedon to get Justice League back on track, giving him freedom to rewrite and reshoot a large portion of the film. Hitting theaters in 2017, it would see a polarized response from critics and audiences alike and bomb at the box office, only pulling in $657 million against a reported break-even point of $750 million, with many Snyder fans creating a new movement to push the studio to allow the filmmaker to restore his original vision for the title. Justice League would later come under fire as Fisher and his co-stars reported claims of abuse, harassment and toxic behavior from Whedon during the time of reshoots and the situation was recently reignited as Whedon partook in an interview defending his side of the situation. After his initial response promising to come back to the matter, Ray Fisher has taken to Twitter to share his thoughts on Joss Whedon's delayed Justice League defense interview. The star criticized the filmmaker for taking this long to respond to the various allegations leveled against him and further criticized the statements Whedon made in his interview in an effort to defend himself. See what Fisher said below: Joss Whedon had nearly two years to get his story straight. He’s likely spent tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars on PR, crisis management, and coaching. And his response to the allegations is: “They all misunderstood and/or are out to get me—also my mom is sexy” ??? — Ray Fisher (@ray8fisher) January 18, 2022 Click here to see the original post Though Fisher did technically respond to Whedon's Justice League interview upon its publishing, it was originally to note he would wait to address the "lies and buffoonery" put forth by the filmmaker until after Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Whedon's first comments on the matter drew a lot of criticism for the nature of his statements, in which he deflected much of the allegations leveled against him. Whedon accused Gal Gadot of misunderstanding his reported threats, citing English not being her first language, while stating he cut down Cyborg's scenes due to them feeling illogical for the story and criticizing Fisher's performance. Fisher's new criticisms for Whedon's delayed Justice League defense falls in line with the general response to the interview, calling out the filmmaker for the late nature of addressing the allegations leveled against him and failing to take any ownership or responsibility for his actions. Even prior to his proper response, fans flooded to Twitter to support the young actor with praises of Fisher's performance as the troubled Cyborg in Zack Snyder's Justice League, while Gadot would follow up in her own statement critiquing Whedon and stating she would never work with him again. With Fisher receiving renewed support from audiences for his performance, one can only hope he gets the apology he wants from studio head Walter Hamada to return as Cyborg sometime in the DCEU future. 16. Tom Hanks has joined the cast of director Marc Forster's A Man Called Ove. A Man Called Ove began as a novel by Fredrik Backman, which was adapted into a 2015 Swedish comedy film of the same name from director Hannes Holm. Holm's film, which was a hit in Sweden, also found itself nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Foreign Language Film, helping it become the U.S.'s highest-grossing foreign-language film of 2016. Now, Forster, best known for World War Z, Monster's Ball, and Finding Neverland, is set to helm the American adaptation of the story. As reported by Deadline, Hanks is joining A Man Called Ove as the title character. The story is said to be a life-affirming comedy that centers on a cranky retired man, Ove, who strikes up an unlikely friendship with his boisterous new neighbors. Forster said of the story, "When I first read Fredrik Backman's novel, I fell in love with the notion that friendship has the power to shape a person's life." No other cast has been announced, though Hanks will be producing alongside Rita Wilson, with Forster serving as an executive producer. A Man Called Ove is also set to reunite Forster with writer David Magee, known for penning two Academy Award-nominated films, Life of Pi and Finding Neverland. Production is slated to start later in the year, meaning the film is likely eyeing a release sometime in 2023. Further details on A Man Called Ove will be forthcoming as the film continues toward production. Source

  20. With the difficulties of COVID, bands are always seeking new ways to keep playing whilst keeping both themselves and the fans safe. Two of the biggest rock bands have taken safety precautions to the next level: COVID sniffing dogs. The idea is that the dogs will be able to sniff out anyone within the touring parties who may have the virus. The bands utilizing this safety precaution are none other than Metallica and Tool. Metallica has hired Bio Detection K9 to assist them with safety measures, whilst Tool has hired another team of dogs for their party. The company has been in the virus detecting business for years, even pre-COVID, using the dogs to detect other viruses and bacteria. The dogs being used are specifically trained to respond to COVID related cases. The dogs are also said to be none responsive to flus and colds. John Peets of Metallica’s management company (Q Prime) says, “So far, knock on wood, the dogs have been knocking it out of the park. We haven’t had a dog miss anybody.” Though effective, the dogs have not been used on entire audiences, only select groups of people. Shawn Reed, the director of the Bio Detection K9 program says, “We don’t search whole stadiums; that is not what we are there for. I don’t take a dog and search a crowd of 60,000 people.” The process goes like this, people are asked to wear a face mask for 10 mins prior to the examination, then remove the mask as the dogs passes. The dogs go through six weeks of training. After training, they’re able to sniff for the virus, if they sit down, they’ve detected the virus. The progress made to upkeep safety during COVID is ever increasing, stay tuned to find out what’s next. Source
